Experimental Study of a Novel Twin-Nozzle Configuration for Reacting Jet in Hot Crossflow

Zhen Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposed a novel twin-nozzle configuration for secondary fuel injection, which can control the injection of fuel and air separately and allow flame organization. By using high-speed CH* imaging, the effects of different parameters on flame dynamical characteristics were investigated, revealing certain patterns.

Preheating and premixing effects on NOx emissions in a high-pressure axially staged combustor

Tommy Genova et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of flame liftoff and ignition timescales on NOx emissions of a reacting methane-air jet in a vitiated crossflow. It finds that a decrease in jet temperature leads to an increase in ignition delay, providing a benefit for NOx reduction, especially for jets injected at or close to an ignitable mixture fraction. Additionally, a thermally driven delay in the axial stage results in greater NOx reduction compared to a mixing delay.

Assessment of single-shot temperature measurements by thermally-assisted OH PLIF using excitation in the A2Σ+-X2Π(1-0) band

Vladimir Dulin et al.

Summary: The present study assesses the effectiveness of single-shot 2D temperature measurements using thermally assisted OH PLIF, finding that the method is most sensitive to temperature changes for the Q(1)(8) transitions. Experimental results show that this approach can effectively detect hot regions in turbulent flames.

10 kHz 2D thermometry in turbulent reacting flows using two-color OH planar laser-induced fluorescence

Paul S. Hsu et al.

Summary: A 10 kHz two-color OH planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) thermometry technique was demonstrated in both laminar Hencken flames and turbulent premixed jet flames, using two injection-seeded optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) pumped by a high-speed three-legged burst-mode laser. The results show promise for the use of this technique in more complex flow environments and potentially even higher repetition rates, with analyses of flame curvature, temperature, and the correlation in time of these quantities.

High-speed simultaneous PLIF/PIV imaging of a lift-off swirling flame under acoustic forcing

Xunchen Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the structure and dynamics of a lean-premixed swirling flame using various measurement techniques, revealing the stable and unstable states of swirling flames under different conditions and the transient transitions between these states. High repetition PLIF/PIV results demonstrate that the lifted flame can be re-attached with increasing equivalence ratio or forcing frequencies and amplitudes.

Two-dimensional temperature in a detonation channel using two-color OH planar laser-induced fluorescence thermometry

Stephen W. Grib et al.

Summary: This work demonstrates single-shot, two-dimensional temperature measurements in a premixed linear detonation channel using two-color OH planar laser-induced fluorescence thermometry. The technique was found suitable for detonation environments based on spectral characteristics, and the precision and accuracy of the method were evaluated under different conditions. The ability to distinguish and quantify detonation burning behavior shows promise for future applications in pressure-gain combustion facilities.
