Comprehensive study of the low-temperature oxidation chemistry by synchrotron photoionization mass spectrometry and gas chromatography

Qiang Xu et al.

Summary: The study developed a JSR system coupled with SVUV-PIMS and GC analysis, which allows for complementary analysis and cross-checking by different methods to improve the accuracy and fidelity of experimental data. This newly developed experimental method enables simultaneous and comprehensive measurement of fuel low-temperature oxidation products, providing a valuable tool for studying fuel low-temperature oxidation chemistry, revealing species pools, and developing combustion models.

Exploring the low-temperature oxidation chemistry with ozone addition in an RCM: A case study on ethanol

Wanxiong Liao et al.

Summary: This study utilizes ozone (O-3) as an active species to extend the oxidation experiments of low-reactivity fuels at low temperatures. By investigating the ignition behavior of ethanol under low-temperature conditions, it is found that the addition of O-3 promotes the generation of OH radicals and is not restricted by the decomposition of H2O2. The hydrogen-abstraction reactions of ethanol by OH radicals play a significant role in the ignition process.

Improving quantification of hydrogen peroxide by synchrotron vacuum ultraviolet photoionization mass spectrometry

Bin Dong et al.

Summary: This study significantly improved the quantification of hydrogen peroxide in the gas-phase autoxidation process by re-evaluating its photoionization cross section. By utilizing spray vaporization combined with a low-pressure flow reactor, decomposition and wall loss of H2O2 were minimized.

A reaction mechanism for ozone dissociation and reaction with hydrogen at elevated temperature

Jie Jian et al.

Summary: This study updated the reaction mechanism of ozone in combustion and validated the simulation results. The experimental data provided insights into the competition between ozone and hydrogen, and constrained the rate constants of key reactions. Comparison between experiments and model predictions showed good agreement for ozone dissociation, but only the present mechanism accurately predicted the hydrogen-ozone reaction rate.

The kinetics of methane ignition in fuel-rich HCCI engines: DME replacement by ozone

Dominik Schroeder et al.

Summary: Fuel-rich combustion of methane with additives such as DME and ozone in an HCCI engine can produce work, heat, and useful chemicals. Experimental results show that ozone is a suitable additive for fuel-rich HCCI, reducing the fuel-fraction of DME needed. The mechanism of ignition differs between fuel-rich and fuel-lean combustion, with ozone showing potential for improving the economics of polygeneration processes.

Low-temperature oxidation chemistry of 2,4,4-trimethyl-1-pentene (diisobutylene) triggered by dimethyl ether (DME): A jet-stirred reactor oxidation and kinetic modeling investigation

Xiaoyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the low-temperature oxidation chemistry of 2,4,4-trimethyl-1-pentene (IC8D4) using experimental and theoretical approaches. It is found that IC8D4/DME mixture has lower reactivity compared to butene/DME mixtures previously studied, and four main pathways are responsible for IC8D4 consumption at low temperatures, with the fourth pathway playing a significant role in reducing reactivity.
