Archean to early Neoproterozoic crustal growth of the southern South American Platform and its wide-reaching African origins

Mathias Hueck et al.

Summary: The amalgamation of southwestern Gondwana during the late Neoproterozoic Brasiliano/Pan-African orogenic cycle involved tectonic interaction of various cratons and basement fragments. A review of U-Pb and Lu-Hf spot analyses in zircon provides new insights on the pre-Brasiliano crustal growth and highlights similarities between different basement fragments. The results indicate an Archean origin for these fragments and intense orogenic reworking during the Rhyacian and Orosirian.

Tectono-Metamorphic Evolution of the Northern Dom Feliciano Belt Foreland, Santa Catarina, Brazil: Implications for Models of Subduction-Driven Orogenesis

Jack James Percival et al.

Summary: The Dom Feliciano Belt in southern Brazil and Uruguay represents the western half of a Neoproterozoic orogenic belt in the South Atlantic region. The nature of orogenesis in this belt has been debated due to limited geochronological data. In this study, metamorphosed rocks from the Brusque Complex in the northern Dom Feliciano Belt were analyzed, showing evidence of orogenic metamorphism and early crustal thickening. The results suggest that orogenesis in this belt was initiated by rift-basin inversion driven by far-field forces transmitted through the crust.

Reconstruction of a volcano-sedimentary environment shared by the Porongos and Varzea do Capivarita complexes at 790 Ma, Dom Feliciano Belt, southern Brazil

Matheus Ariel Battisti et al.

Summary: By using geochronological and zircon oxygen isotope studies, this work explores the pre-collisional history of the Dom Feliciano Belt in southernmost Brazil. The research suggests that the Varzea do Capivarita and Porongos complexes may have shared the same magmatic event around 800-770 Ma, providing important information for understanding the tectonic boundaries and pre-collisional history of the orogen.

Autochthonous origin of the Encruzilhada Block, Dom Feliciano Belt, southern Brazil, based on aerogeophysics, image analysis and PT-paths

Giuseppe Betino De Toni et al.

Summary: The Encruzilhada Block, located in southern Brazil, lies between the eastern hinterland and western foreland of the Dom Feliciano Belt. The tectonic similarities between the block and the foreland are indicated by magnetic and geological characteristics, suggesting a shared geological evolution.

Pre-orogenic connection of the foreland domains of the Kaoko-Dom Feliciano-Gariep orogenic system

Jack James Percival et al.

Summary: Neoproterozoic metasedimentary rocks in the foreland domains of the Kaoko-Dom Feliciano-Gariep orogenic system provide valuable insights into the pre-orogenic positions of rifted margins of the African and South American cratonic blocks. U-Pb isotopic dating of zircon in the Brusque Complex in Brazil reveals the timing and sources of Neoproterozoic sedimentation along the eastern margin of the Luis Alves Craton. The presence of different age groups in the detrital zircon analysis suggests erosion from adjacent cratons and Paleoproterozoic to Mesoproterozoic igneous provinces at the edge of the Congo Craton.
