Structural, morphological, optical, and dielectric properties of PVA-PVP filled with zinc oxide aluminum-graphene oxide composite for promising applications

Fathia Mohamed et al.

Summary: Polymer nanocomposites of PVA and PVP filled with various concentrations of nanocomposite (Zn0.97Al0.03O: 1 wt% GO) were prepared by solution mixing and cast into films. The optical band gap of the composites decreased significantly from 5.2 to 4.7 eV as the nanocomposite fillers varied from 0 to 7 wt%. Additionally, the composite with only 1 wt% of the particle showed extremely high dielectric permittivity and conductivity.

Glycerol as an efficient plasticizer to increase the DC conductivity and improve the ion transport parameters in biopolymer based electrolytes: XRD, FTIR and EIS studies

Aziz M. Abdullah et al.

Summary: Plasticized sodium ion conducting solid polymer electrolytes based on polyvinyl alcohol and methylcellulose were fabricated using a solution casting procedure. The addition of glycerol plasticizer significantly reduced the crystallinity of the polymers. The electrolyte with 40 wt% glycerol exhibited the highest ionic conductivity. Electrical equivalence circuits were used to explore the electrolyte circuit components, and Fourier-transform infrared transform analysis supported the development of polymer-salt complexes.

Fabrication, microstructure, and nonlinear/linear optical parameters of polymeric-based poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) nanocomposites films for optical attenuation applications

Ahmed Mahmoud Nawar et al.

Summary: A novel optical attenuator with poly(vinyl alcohol)/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) doped PbS (NPs) nanoparticles nanocomposites films is proposed. The samples are fabricated by casting-method to analyze the linear optical properties and estimate the nonlinear optical parameters. The fabricated films show decreased transmission and increased absorption coefficient as the doping ratio of PbS (NPs) is increased, indicating their potential applications in UV-blocking and laser attenuation.

Organic solvents enhance polyvinyl alcohol/polyethylene glycol self-healing hydrogels for artificial cartilage

Zishuo Ye et al.

Summary: In this study, the mechanical and tribological properties of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogels were improved by introducing polyethylene glycol (PEG) and using organic solvent dehydration treatment. The network structure and mechanical properties of PVA/PEG gels were effectively enhanced by the organic solvent dehydration method. Furthermore, the wear rate of the friction pair was reduced by the organic solvent dehydration treatment, demonstrating improved wear resistance.

Development and Characterization of Cellulose Modified Surface with Allylthiourea as Functional Sites to Remove Basic Red 5 from Aqueous Solution

Ahmad Faizrin Fuzlin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the removal of Basic Red 5 using cellulose modified surface with allylthiourea. The higher the concentration of BR5 in the solution, the higher the removal percentage. The most efficient pH for removal was at pH 7 with 80% removal, and the pH effect had a significant impact on the results. Adsorption of BR5 resulted in slight increases in carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen content but a decrease in sulfur content.

Water governs the mechanical properties of poly(vinyl alcohol)

Lujuan Li et al.

Summary: The presence of water significantly reduces the mechanical strength of PVA but increases its plasticity. Additionally, water inclusion lowers the glass transition temperature of PVA, increases free volume, and promotes relaxation and mobility of PVA chains. This is mainly due to the plasticizing and lubricating effects of water on the PVA chains.
