Structural behavior of 3D-printed sandwich beams with strut-based lattice core: Experimental and numerical study

S. A. M. Ghannadpour et al.

Summary: This study introduces 10 strut-based topologies for lattice-core sandwich beams, investigates their mechanical properties via digital light processing (DLP) 3D technology, and confirms experimental results with finite element analysis (FEA). Some structures show potential as optimal choices for 3D-printed sandwich panels.

Compression and flexural properties of rigid polyurethane foam composites reinforced with 3D-printed polylactic acid lattice structures

Yubo Tao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that 3D printed lattice structures filled with RPUF can improve the mechanical properties of composite materials. Experimental testing and FEA modeling showed that lattice structures have significant effects on the compression and flexural performance of composites, with increased strut quantity and density leading to enhanced performance.

In-plane energy absorption characteristics of a modified re-entrant auxetic structure fabricated via 3D printing

Niranjan Kumar Choudhry et al.

Summary: In this study, the in-plane energy absorption characteristics of modified re-entrant auxetic honeycombs were investigated, showing a 36% improvement in specific energy absorption capacity compared to conventional structures. The introduced nodes with low rotational stiffness contributed to the enhanced energy absorption capacity of the modified structure.

Employing U-shaped 3D printed polymer to improve flexural properties of cementitious tailings backfills

Shiwen Qin et al.

Summary: This study explores the effect of using 3D printed polymeric lattice to reinforce cementitious tailings backfill on roof stability. The results show that U-shaped 3DPPL reinforcement significantly improves the flexural strength of CTB when the material types are OR and NY, while material type TR weakens it. Among different shapes and material types, rhombus and OR are found to be the best choices. U-shaped 3DPPL reinforced backfills exhibit better flexural deflection values compared to N-3DPPL reinforced ones.

Mechanical Behavior of Concrete Columns Confined with CFRP Grid-Reinforced Engineered Cementitious Composites

Zhong-Feng Zhu et al.

Summary: Using CFRP-ECC to strengthen reinforced concrete columns can effectively enhance their mechanical behavior, but the rupture of the CFRP grid is the most common failure mode. Increasing the number of reinforcement layers greatly enhances the low-strength core concrete, while there is no significant improvement for high-strength core concrete. The cracking stress of CFRP-ECC has a significant influence on the mechanical behavior of the columns.
