Melting kinetics, ultra-drawability and microstructure of nascent ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene powder

Fotis Christakopoulos et al.

Summary: This study investigated the melting behavior of nascent UHMWPE reactor powder through differential scanning calorimetry and evaluated the apparent activation energy barrier of melting for different UHMWPE grades with isoconversional analysis. The results showed that the apparent activation energy of melting can be used as a screening method to estimate the maximum draw ratio, highlighting the correlation between melting kinetics, microstructure, and maximum draw ratio for all grades.
