Lattice-Directed Selective Synthesis of Acetylenic and Diacetylenic Organometallic Polyynes

Xin Yu et al.

Summary: On-surface synthesis is a promising strategy for constructing novel carbon-based nanostructures. In this study, the on-surface reactions of 1,1,2,2-tetraiodoethylene and 1,1,4,4-tetrabromo-1,2,3-butatriene were systematically explored. The results showed the feasibility of achieving acetylenic and diacetylenic organometallic polyyne on Ag(110) and Cu(110) surfaces, respectively. The transformation between different structures after annealing indicated a lattice dependence of skeleton reconstruction on the corresponding surfaces.

Stimuli-Responsive Polydiacetylene Based on the Self-Assembly of a Mercury-Bridged Macrocyclic Diacetylene Dimer

Kwangmin Bae et al.

Summary: Metal-mediated self-assembly allows controlled construction of supramolecular architectures with diverse functionalities. By introducing a metal-binding nucleobase cytosine to a macrocyclic diacetylene, a Hg-coordinated unidirectional columnar self-assembly was generated, forming organic nanotubes. UV-induced covalent cross-linking of the monomeric CytMCDA-Hg with blue-phase macrocyclic polydiacetylene nanotubes resulted in a sensing response towards heat and solvents, as well as high sensitivity against thiols.

Solvent Polarity-Modulated Molecular Alignment of Linear Diacetylenic Acid Films by Solution Shearing

Fang-Ju Lin et al.

Summary: Films of well-aligned linear diacetylenic acid were prepared and photopolymerized using the solution-shearing method. The direction of molecular alignment and polymer chains varied depending on the polarity of the solvent used during the shearing process. Transistors based on these films showed highly anisotropic field-effect mobilities, with the highest mobility obtained from films prepared from a hexane solution.

On-Surface Synthesis toward Two-Dimensional Polymers

Tianchao Niu et al.

Summary: This article introduces the unique physicochemical properties of two-dimensional (2D) polymers and their potential applications in various fields. It discusses the methods of synthesizing ordered 2D polymers by choosing appropriate monomers and optimizing growth conditions, and describes the polymerization strategies for introducing non-benzenoid subunits into pi-conjugated carbon lattices. It also explores new approaches for aryl-aryl coupling on inert surfaces. The importance of monomer design and recent developments in photopolymerization are emphasized.
