Reactive Multifunctional Polymer Films Using Thermally Stimulated Cascade-like Reactions: Potential Strategy Employing Modified ortho-Allylation in Polyimides

David Meis et al.

Summary: By studying a group of allylated polyimides, we show the potential to undergo a series of consecutive reactions in a thermally stimulated reaction cascade, which may enhance the performance of polyimides in various applications.

Thermal rearrangement in thermal cascade reaction polymers via ortho-carbonate ester functionalization of polyimides and their gas separation performance

David Meis et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a method to enhance the permeability of Thermal Rearrangement Polymers at lower annealing temperatures by tailoring the thermally triggered decomposition and reaction cascade. The size and branching of the carbonate ester connected alkyl group were found to affect the film properties and gas separation performance. The ethyl carbonate ester (ECO3PI-1) polymer showed attractive membrane material properties with an ideal selectivity of CO2/CH4 above 30 after aging.
