Drosophila suzukii Susceptibility to the Oral Administration of Bacillus thuringiensis, Xenorhabdus nematophila and Its Secondary Metabolites

Maristella Mastore et al.

Summary: In recent years, climate change and international fruit trade have facilitated the introduction of harmful insects to new areas leading to increased use of chemical insecticides. This study focuses on improving biological control methods for managing Spotted Wing Drosophila, with promising results showing enhanced efficacy through the combined use of entomopathogenic bacteria. Further research and field testing of these bioinsecticides are recommended for future application.

Multi-locus phylogenetic analyses uncover species boundaries and reveal the occurrence of two new entomopathogenic nematode species, Heterorhabditis ruandica n. sp. and Heterorhabditis zacatecana n. sp.

Ricardo A. R. Machado et al.

Summary: Species of the nematode genus Heterorhabditis are important biological control agents against agricultural pests. The taxonomy of this group is still unclear due to reliance on limited genetic markers, leading to the discovery of two new species through multi-locus sequencing and rigorous morphological characterization. The study demonstrates the utility of the mitochondrial COI gene marker for phylogenetic resolution and species delimitation within Heterorhabditis, providing valuable insights for sustainable agriculture.

A. Rana et al.

Summary: A population of nematodes belonging to the genus Oscheius was discovered in western Uttar Pradesh, India, showing high similarity to six species previously described from Pakistan. Molecular analysis revealed almost identical DNA sequences between the Indian population and the Pakistani species, supporting their synonym status. Phylogenetic analysis placed Oscheius citri as a sister species to O. chongmingensis and O. rugaoensis from China.
