Association between impulsivity and orthorexia nervosa/healthy orthorexia: any mediating effect of depression, anxiety, and stress?

Emmanuelle Awad et al.

Summary: This study found that depression and anxiety were positively correlated with orthorexic eating behaviors, while stress showed a negative correlation. There was also a notable gender difference, with higher anxiety and female gender associated with healthier orthorexic eating behaviors, and higher stress associated with unhealthier orthorexic eating behaviors. Additionally, higher urgency was associated with unhealthier orthorexic eating behaviors, while higher perseverance was associated with healthier orthorexic eating behaviors. Depression and anxiety partially mediated the relationship between certain personality traits and orthorexic eating, while anxiety and stress partially mediated the relationship between other personality traits and healthier orthorexic eating.

Annika Brandtner et al.

Summary: This review paper proposes integrating desire thinking into the I-PACE model, based on theoretical considerations and empirical evidence from internet-use disorders. The integration suggests a relief-oriented and pleasure-oriented entry pathway, as well as a feedback loop between desire thinking and the experience of gratification and compensation. These model pathways could serve as a theoretical foundation for future research and require further empirical verification.
