Satellite based integrated approaches to modelling spatial carbon stock and carbon sequestration potential of different land uses of Northeast India

R. Bordoloi et al.

Summary: The study aimed to estimate and predict aboveground biomass, carbon stock, and carbon sequestration potential of different land uses in Northeast India using a combined approach of field inventory and Landsat OLI derived vegetation indices. The predicted aboveground biomass ranged from 14.32 to 185.95 Mg ha(-1) with an average of 148.78 Mg ha(-1), and the developed model showed a correlation of R-2 = 0.79 with an RMSE of 51.04 Mg ha(-1). The study also applied the empirical model CO2FIX to simulate the future carbon stock and sequestration potential of different land uses, indicating varying levels of carbon stock potential across different land uses.

Global maps of twenty-first century forest carbon fluxes

Nancy L. Harris et al.

Summary: Global forests have been a net carbon sink over the past two decades, with an estimated annual net carbon uptake ranging from -7.6 +/- 49 GtCO(2)e. The study integrates ground and Earth observation data to map forest-related greenhouse gas emissions and removals globally, aiming to support the development of climate policies. This geospatial monitoring framework introduced in the research aims to promote consistency and transparency in climate policy development.

Southeast Asian protected areas are effective in conserving forest cover and forest carbon stocks compared to unprotected areas

Victoria Graham et al.

Summary: Protected areas in Southeast Asia showed three times less forest cover loss compared to similar landscapes without protection. Areas that completed management reporting using METT conserved more forest cover and forest carbon stocks. Management scores were positively correlated with carbon emissions avoided, highlighting the importance of scaling up management effectiveness reporting programs for better forest conservation and carbon storage.

Prey and habitat distribution are not enough to explain predator habitat selection: addressing intraspecific interactions, behavioural state and time

Alexis Grenier-Potvin et al.

Summary: The study found that intraspecific interactions play an important role in the habitat selection of territorial arctic foxes. During the reproductive season, foxes avoided territory edges and selected den proximity before goose egg hatching. Furthermore, foxes modulated habitat selection based on prey distribution and habitat characteristics according to their behavioral state and study period.
