Rest-fMRI based comparison study between autism spectrum disorder and typically control using graph frequency bands

Alireza Talesh Jafadideh et al.

Summary: This paper utilizes graph signal processing tools to study autism spectrum disorder, finding that as age increases, energy concentration of brain signals in ASD patients decreases, leading to difficulty in dynamic switching and lower behavioral flexibility. There are significant differences in brain activity patterns between ASD and typical controls in different graph frequency bands.

Altered structural balance of resting-state networks in autism

Z. Moradimanesh et al.

Summary: The complexity of a network is determined not only by its size but also by the interactions between elements. The complexity of brain networks also arises from interactions beyond pair connections, particularly in genetically complex brain impairments like ASD. By analyzing ASD and control networks using structural balance theory, it was found that balanced triads are overrepresented in the ASD networks, providing empirical evidence for the concept of structural balance on brain networks.

Atypical Resting State Functional Neural Network in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder: Graph Theory Approach

Daiki Soma et al.

Summary: This study compared the properties of resting-state functional brain networks in children with and without ASD, finding that children with ASD exhibited significantly lower small-worldness in the beta band compared to typically developing children. Additionally, the lower small-worldness in children with ASD was associated with higher social impairment severity scores. These results suggest the potential of combining graph theory and MEG as a promising approach for establishing a biological marker for ASD.

Summary: This study successfully applies machine learning and graph signal processing techniques to classify typical and ASD subjects, and establishes a diagnostic aid model by combining knowledge about brain structure and functional activity. The analysis reveals the significant influence of frontal and temporal lobes in the diagnosis of autism.
