Manipulating Intratumoral Fenton Chemistry for Enhanced Chemodynamic and Chemodynamic-Synergized Multimodal Therapy

Yaofeng Zhou et al.

Summary: Various strategies have been developed to increase the efficiency of the intratumoral Fenton reaction in chemodynamic therapy (CDT), enhancing the therapeutic efficacy. The introduction of reinforcement strategies can improve treatment efficiency and promote the development of enhanced CDT-based multimodal anticancer therapies.

Measuring plasma-generated •OH and O atoms in liquid using EPR spectroscopy and the non-selectivity of the HTA assay

B. Myers et al.

Summary: Plasma-generated hydroxyl radicals and oxygen atoms were investigated, revealing that the HTA assay cannot distinguish between OH radicals and atomic oxygen, leading to inaccuracies in measuring aqueous OH densities. The experiments showed the significant role of atomic oxygen in plasma-induced liquid chemistry, highlighting the need for diagnostic techniques that take this into account.

Absolute ion density measurements in the afterglow of a radiofrequency atmospheric pressure plasma jet

Jingkai Jiang et al.

Summary: This study calibrated the absolute densities of cold ions in the afterglow region of an atmospheric pressure plasma jet, and found that positive ion densities were significantly lower than those of dominant reactive neutral species. The results demonstrate the capability of molecular beam mass spectrometry to quantitatively evaluate both neutral and ionic species in various applications using APPJs.

Quantification of Plasma-Produced Hydroxyl Radicals in Solution and their Dependence on the pH

Francesco Tampieri et al.

Summary: In this study, the steady-state concentration and lifetime of plasma-produced hydroxyl radicals in water solutions at pH 3 and 7 were quantified for the first time, along with discussions on their reactivity with other plasma-generated species. The use of chemical probes to quantify short-lived reactive species was shown to have an influence on the results and should be taken into account.

Development of a free radical-based kinetics model for the oxidative degradation of chlorazol black in aqueous solution using periodate photoactivated process

Mohamed Larbi Djaballah et al.

Summary: This study presents a modeling study on the UV/periodate (IO4-) advanced oxidation process, evaluating the generation and distribution of reactive species. The research found that (OH)-O-center dot and IO3 center dot play a key role in the degradation of chlorazol black, with radical concentration increasing with decreasing pH and rising periodate concentration.

Generation of hydroxyl radical-activatable ratiometric near-infrared bimodal probes for early monitoring of tumor response to therapy

Luyan Wu et al.

Summary: The response of tumors to radiotherapy or ferroptosis is closely linked to hydroxyl radical production, and accurate imaging of this reactive oxygen species may allow for monitoring of therapy response. A ratiometric probe has been developed for in vivo imaging of hydroxyl radical generation, providing a reliable method for monitoring treatment response in tumors undergoing erastin-induced ferroptosis or radiotherapy.

Flowing Atmospheric Pressure Afterglow for Ambient Ionization: Reaction Pathways Revealed by Modeling

Maryam Aghaei et al.

Summary: In this study, plasma chemistry in a helium flowing atmospheric pressure afterglow (FAPA) for analytical spectrometry is described using a quasi-one-dimensional plasma chemical kinetics model. The model demonstrates the formation of H, N, and O atoms in the discharge region, and the dominance of O-3 and NO species in the afterglow. Helium plays a key role in Penning ionization and charge transfer reactions, leading to high analytical sensitivity. The model's predictions align with previous observations in the literature, providing insights to enhance analytical performance of ambient desorption/ionization sources.

Chemical kinetics and density measurements of OH in an atmospheric pressure He + O2 + H2O radiofrequency plasma

Alexandra Brisset et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of adding oxygen and water vapor to helium plasma on the density of OH, revealing that the addition of O-2 leads to a significant increase in atomic oxygen density. The simulations show that OH, O, and O-3 densities can be controlled relatively independently over a wide range of conditions through the addition of multiple gas admixtures.
