CRISPR/Cas9-Mediated Targeting of Susceptibility Factor eIF4E-Enhanced Resistance Against Potato Virus Y

Azka Noureen et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that using CRISPR/Cas9 technology to mutate the conserved region of the translation initiation factor eIF4E in potato can enhance resistance to Potato Virus Y (PVY). The mutated eIF4E protein is unable to interact with the virus, preventing its replication and systemic spread in the host. This provides a potential strategy to develop novel resistant potato cultivars against PVY.
