Analysis of overwintering indexes of winter wheat in alpine regions and establishment of a cold resistance model

Yuzhuo Bao et al.

Summary: Wheat is the main food crop in the world, and planting winter wheat in alpine regions can improve land use efficiency and increase farmers' income. The study on the physiological process of winter wheat has practical value. A multi-index cold-resistant overwintering model of winter wheat was established using a logistic regression algorithm in a three-year field experiment. The results showed that specific osmotic and anti-oxidative stress indicators can affect the winter survival capacity of winter wheat in alpine regions.

Integrated metabolo-transcriptomics and functional characterization reveals that the wheat auxin receptor TIR1 negatively regulates defense againstFusarium graminearum

Peisen Su et al.

Summary: This study investigated the mechanisms underlying wheat resistance to F. graminearum infection through integrated metabolomics and transcriptomics analysis, identifying potential pathways for improving FHB resistance in wheat. Experiments showed that exogenous application of certain compounds increased wheat resistance to FHB, while knockdown of the auxin receptor gene TaTIR1 also enhanced FHB resistance, indicating the potential use of this gene in crop improvement programs.

Adaptability of winter wheat Dongnongdongmai 1 (Triticum aestivum L.) to overwintering in alpine regions

Y. Bao et al.

Summary: The successful cultivation of winter wheat Dn1 in northeast China allowed for a shift from one-crop-a-year cultivation system due to its extreme temperature resistance. Metabolomic analysis revealed that disaccharides play a protective role for winter wheat Dn1 during overwintering, while amino acid metabolism changes significantly throughout the entire wintering process. In late stages of overwintering, organic fatty acid metabolism also shows significant changes, indicating that different metabolites are utilized by winter wheat Dn1 in different overwintering stages.

Apple B-box protein BBX37 regulates jasmonic acid mediated cold tolerance through the JAZ-BBX37-ICE1-CBF pathway and undergoes MIEL1-mediated ubiquitination and degradation

Jian-Ping An et al.

Summary: In apple, a novel B-box protein MdBBX37 positively regulates JA-mediated cold-stress resistance by activating the transcription of MdCBF1 and MdCBF4 and enhancing the transcriptional activity of MdICE1 on MdCBF1. Furthermore, two JA signaling repressors, MdJAZ1 and MdJAZ2, negatively regulate JA-mediated cold tolerance by interacting with MdBBX37. E3 ligase MdMIEL1 reduces MdBBX37-improved cold resistance through ubiquitination and degradation of MdBBX37 protein.

OsRR6, a type-A response regulator in rice, mediates cytokinin, light and stress responses when over-expressed in Arabidopsis

Avantika Bhaskar et al.

Summary: The study characterized OsRR6, a type-A response regulator in rice, which plays a crucial role in plant response to abiotic stress, promoting tolerance to drought and salinity. OsRR6 expression is regulated by exogenous cytokinin and various abiotic stress treatments, affecting root growth, anthocyanin accumulation and cytokinin sensitivity in plants. OsRR6(OX) plants showed upregulated defense response and anthocyanin metabolism genes, indicating a positive role of OsRR6 in imparting abiotic stress tolerance.

Summary: PIN-FORMED (PIN) genes are crucial in regulating polar auxin distribution in various developmental processes. This study identified 44 TaPIN genes in common wheat and classified them into seven groups, showing an evolutionary relationship with Arabidopsis thaliana and Oryza sativa. The expression patterns of TaPIN genes vary in different tissues and developmental stages, with some members induced during biotic and abiotic stress.
