Phosphorus fertilizer form and application frequency affect soil P availability, chickpea yield, and P use efficiency under drip fertigation

Mohamed Chtouki et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential use of inorganic soluble polyphosphates (Poly-P) as slow-release fertilizer in drip fertigation. The results showed that Poly-P fertilizers can reduce the mobility of P in the soil while maintaining its availability. Weekly fertigation exhibited the best results in terms of P availability. Using Poly-P fertilizers can reduce the frequency of P application in drip fertigation and ensure high crop yields.

Comparing two theories about the nature of soil phosphate

N. J. Barrow

Summary: This article discusses two theories about soil phosphate, the precipitate-particulate theory and the adsorption-penetration theory. The author argues that the persistence of the precipitate-particulate theory leads to wasted research effort, inadequate recognition of long-term changes in soil phosphate, and misunderstanding of the effects of pH on phosphate availability.

Excessive application of chemical fertilizer and organophosphorus pesticides induced total phosphorus loss from planting causing surface water eutrophication

Liyuan Liu et al.

Summary: The study found that excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides are the main factors influencing TP loss, while annual precipitation and relative humidity can increase TP loss. TP loss in Qinghai and Shandong provinces was significant, and correlated with TP concentration in surface water. Recommendations to reduce TP loss include promoting scientific fertilization technologies, restricting organophosphorus pesticides, and popularizing water-saving irrigation technologies.
