Effect of ring-source release on dispersion process in Poiseuille flow with wall absorption

Sudip Debnath et al.

Summary: The transient dispersion process with a ring-source release of solute in a narrow pipe is investigated using an unsteady two-dimensional transport model. The transport model is solved using the generalized dispersion technique proposed by W. N. Gill. The study outcomes are well established and provide more detailed information on solute scattering.

Effects of wind on transient dispersion of active particles in a free-surface wetland flow

M. Y. Guan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the mechanisms of active-particle transport in a wetland flow under wind. It is found that the migration of active-particle cloud can reach a stable state under the combined action of wind, hydrodynamics, and cell motility. The strong wind can result in the reverse movement of particles and significant changes in the concentration distribution.

An investigation of a gas-liquid swirling flow with shear-thinning power-law liquids

Shuo Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the flow characteristics of a gas-liquid swirling flow with shear-thinning liquid rheology through experiments and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The results show that the swirling flow can be divided into developing and decaying sections, with the smaller index n contributing to maintaining the development of the flow field. The consistency k also affects the flow characteristics.

Transient dispersion in a channel with crossflow and wall adsorption

Bohan Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dispersion process of reactive substances between parallel plates. The classical method of moments and eigenfunction expansion are used to calculate the moments up to fourth order, allowing the reflection of non-Gaussian properties. The study reveals strong non-Gaussian properties and asymmetric concentration distribution in the preasymptotic regime, which is extended by the presence of crossflow and wall adsorption.

Effects of the swirl number, Reynolds number and nozzle-to-plate distance on impingement heat transfer from swirling jets

Gerardo Paolillo et al.

Summary: This paper reports on a parametric study of the impingement heat transfer from swirling jets issuing from a circular nozzle. The effects of the dimensionless impingement distance, swirl number, and Reynolds number on the heat transfer distribution are investigated. The results show that the swirl number and impingement distance significantly influence the structure of the heat transfer distribution, while the Reynolds number affects the magnitude. The study also compares the performance of swirling jets and concludes that weak swirl can enhance heat transfer rates at a small extent, while moderate swirl can enhance heat transfer rates to a larger extent but with a deterioration of uniformity.

Analytical solutions for reactive shear dispersion with boundary adsorption and desorption

Weiquan Jiang et al.

Summary: This article investigates the influence of reversible adsorption-desorption on solute dispersion and proposes a simpler analytical method to derive solutions using the Laplace transform. The classic framework of separation of variables is extended to explore higher-order statistics in practice, and Gill's generalized dispersion model for solute concentration distributions is also extended to address transient dispersion characteristics. The study analyzes the influence of reversible adsorption-desorption on solute cloud and discusses the characteristics of different concentration distributions.

Transient dispersion process of active particles

Weiquan Jiang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the transient process of active particles in confined environments, exploring the temporal evolution of local distribution, drift, dispersivity, and skewness based on moments of distributions. It is found that swimming-induced diffusion leads to a faster equilibrium state for the local distribution compared to passive particles, while wall accumulation significantly affects the evolution of the local distribution and drift.
