Pressure Infiltration of Aluminum Melts into a Loose Bed of Hollow Cenosphere Particles

Jeongkyun Kim et al.

Summary: Experiments and analytical analysis were conducted to investigate the pressure infiltration of pure aluminum melts in loose beds of hollow spherical particles. The results showed that higher particle temperature and lower ratio of particle wall thickness and particle radius (t/R) decrease the apparent volume fraction of solidified layers, resulting in lower threshold pressure, longer infiltration length, higher melt temperature, and higher melt velocity around the particles. These findings provide insights into the infiltration of melt into a bed of hollow particles and suggest the benefits of using hollow particles for synthesizing composites using melt infiltration techniques.

Melt infiltration through porous debris at temperatures above Solidification: Validation of analytical model

Seyed Mohsen Hoseyni et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamics of melt infiltration through a preheated porous debris bed, crucial for severe accident modeling in nuclear power plants. The known analytical model is validated against experimental data, with emphasis on the importance of permeability as the most influential parameter.

Metallic melt infiltration in preheated debris bed and the effect of solidification

Seyed Mohsen Hoseyni et al.

Summary: This paper examines the phenomenon of melt infiltration through a porous debris bed with and without solidification by synthesizing data from ongoing experimental research. The study identifies different flow regimes for melt infiltration in hot porous debris and limited by solidification in cold debris, and correlates the depth of penetration with the heat characteristics of the melt.
