Electroweak nuclear radii constrain the isospin breaking correction to Vud

Chien-Yeah Seng et al.

Summary: We propose a new formalism that connects isospin-symmetry breaking correction to the rates of superallowed nuclear beta decays, denoted as delta C, with experimentally accessible combinations of electroweak nuclear radii that are sensitive to isospin breaking. We identify transitions in the superallowed decay chart where even a moderately precise measurement of the neutron skin of a stable daughter can already help differentiate between models used to calculate delta C. We review the current experimental situation and establish connections to existing and future experimental programs.

Pion-Induced Radiative Corrections to Neutron β Decay

Vincenzo Cirigliano et al.

Summary: We compute electromagnetic corrections to neutron beta decay using a low-energy hadronic effective field theory and identify new radiative corrections arising from virtual pions that were missed in previous studies. These corrections impact the axial charge of nucleon, beta-u angular correlations, and beta asymmetry.

Nucleon-nucleon short-ranged correlations, β decay, and the unitarity of the CKM matrix

Levi Condren et al.

Summary: The influence of nucleon-nucleon short-ranged correlations (SRC) on nuclear superallowed beta decay is examined in this study. The findings suggest that the influence of SRC is significant and has implications for the unitarity of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element.

Charge-symmetry-breaking effects on neutron ? decay in nonrelativistic quark models

Jacob W. Crawford et al.

Summary: This paper discusses a formalism for the study of charge-symmetry-breaking (CSB) effects and uses it to analyze the effects of charge-symmetry breaking on neutron beta decay. The inclusion of CSB reduces the beta-decay matrix element by a value on the order of 10-4, which is higher than the previous estimate. Previous calculations did not consider the matrix element of the sum of the individual terms between the ground and excited states, instead using the neutron-proton mass difference as the CSB operator. The electromagnetic and dynamic effects of the up-down quark mass difference counteract each other in the computation of the n-p mass difference but contribute coherently to the excitation matrix elements, causing significant enhancements. The current uncertainty in the value of Vud is also of the order of 10-4. To improve that uncertainty by an order of magnitude, future analyses need to include charge-symmetry-breaking effects.

Kl3 form factors at the physical point: Toward the continuum limit

Ken-ichi Ishikawa et al.

Summary: This paper presents updated results for the form factors of the kaon semileptonic decay process. The calculations were performed using a nonperturbatively Ooa-improved Wilson quark action and Iwasaki gauge action. The values of the form factors were obtained through extrapolation and interpolation at different lattice spacings. By combining the results with experimental data, one of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements jVusj was determined. The obtained value is in reasonable agreement with other lattice QCD results and the one obtained from the kaon leptonic decay process.

Minimal Explanation of Flavor Anomalies: B-Meson Decays, Muon Magnetic Moment, and the Cabibbo Angle

David Marzocca et al.

Summary: Significant deviations from the standard model are observed in semileptonic charged and neutral-current B decays, the muon magnetic moment, and the extraction of the Cabibbo angle, pointing towards a coherent pattern of new physics effects induced by two scalar mediators. This framework provides the most minimal explanation to the mentioned anomalies while being consistent with all other phenomenological constraints.

Electroweak axial structure functions and improved extraction of the Vud CKM matrix element

K. Shiells et al.

Summary: In this study, a comprehensive analysis of the gamma W interference radiative correction to the neutron beta-decay matrix element is presented using a dispersion relations approach. The real part of the box correction is calculated and a theoretical estimate for the CKM matrix element is provided, which indicates a 4 sigma violation of unitarity.

Standard model O(a) renormalization of gA and its impact on new physics searches

Leendert Hayen

Summary: This paper presents an O(a) Standard Model calculation for inner radiative corrections to Gamow-Teller beta decays, discussing various contributions such as weak magnetism, hadronic contributions, and corrections at low energy. Results for axial and vector inner radiative corrections are provided, allowing for the extraction of g(A)(0) for the first time. Additionally, corrections for a double-counting instance in mirror decay extraction and implications for comparing experimental data to lattice calculations are discussed.

Cabibbo anomaly versus electroweak precision tests: An exploration of extensions of the standard model

Matthew Kirk

Summary: The article discusses the tension between determinations of V-us from different sources, particularly highlighted by the new R(V-us) observable. The researchers explore this observable from the perspective of Standard Model Effective Field Theory and find a discrepancy between R(V-us) and existing electroweak precision observables in a scenario dominated by a single operator. Various possible single particle extensions of the Standard Model that could generate the Cabibbo anomaly effect are explored, showing that they cannot easily reconcile the current data. Further examination of the future of electroweak precision observables at ILC or FCC-ee experiments is discussed, along with the impact of changes in specific electroweak observables on the tension.
