In-silico optimisation of tileable philips digital SiPM based thin monolithic scintillator detectors for SPECT applications

Jeremy M. C. Brown

Summary: In the past decade, significant technological advancements have been made in the field of radiation detectors for nuclear medicine with the development of Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) sensors. A study was conducted to investigate the optimal design of a Philips DPC3200 SiPM sensor-based thin monolithic scintillator detector for Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) applications using the Geant4 simulation toolkit. The study found that CsI(Tl) is the most promising material for constructing tileable Philips digital SiPM based thin monolithic scintillator detectors for SPECT applications, considering factors such as MRI compatibility, hygroscopy, and cost.
