A universal qudit quantum processor with trapped ions

Martin Ringbauer et al.

Summary: Most quantum computers encode information in qubits using binary encoding, but the underlying physical hardware has a rich multilevel structure. We demonstrate a universal quantum processor using trapped ions that act as qudits with a high-dimensional Hilbert space.

Experimental Demonstration of Swift Analytical Universal Control Over Nearby Transitions

Yue Li et al.

Summary: In this study, we extended and experimentally demonstrated analytically based swift quantum control techniques on a four-level trapped ion system. By using tailored time-varied drive, we achieved individual or simultaneous control over two pairs of spectrally nearby transitions, with high operational fidelities. We achieved approximately an order of magnitude speedup compared with the conventional weak square pulse control.

Unpaired topological triply degenerate point for spin-tensor-momentum-coupled ultracold atoms

Zhoutao Lei et al.

Summary: This study explores the coexistence of a single unpaired triply degenerate point (TDP) and multiple twofold Weyl points (WPs) using an experimental scheme with ultracold pseudospin-1 atomic gases trapped in optical lattices. The results show that the unpaired TDP possesses a topological nontrivial middle band and is directly connected to additional WPs by topologically protected Fermi-arc states.

Experimental Observation of Tensor Monopoles with a Superconducting Qudit

Xinsheng Tan et al.

Summary: Monopoles are important in physics, with two fundamental types: vector monopoles and tensor monopoles. While vector monopoles have been extensively studied and observed in condensed matter, tensor monopoles are less studied and their observation has not been reported yet. Through experimental methods, the energy structure of a 4D Weyl-like Hamiltonian with tensor monopoles has been imaged, and the first experiment measuring Dixmier-Douady invariant for tensor monopoles has been reported. The observation of topological phase transitions characterized by the Dixmier-Douady invariant is a significant finding in this study.

Measurement of Spin Chern Numbers in Quantum Simulated Topological Insulators

Qing-Xian Lv et al.

Summary: Researchers successfully measured the spin Chern number by mimicking the Bemevig-Hughes-Zhang model with cold atoms in experiments. They found that the spin Chern number remains well defined when both energy and spin gaps are nonvanished.
