Search for Neutrino-Induced Neutral-Current Δ Radiative Decay in MicroBooNE and a First Test of the MiniBooNE Low Energy Excess under a Single-Photon Hypothesis

P. Abratenko et al.

Summary: We present the results of a study on neutrino-induced neutral current resonant Delta(1232) baryon production and subsequent Delta radiative decay with a 0.8 GeV neutrino beam. By analyzing data from the first three years of MicroBooNE's operation, we select single-photon events and examine the final state for the presence of protons and charged leptons. The background is constrained using a dedicated measurement of NC pi(0) events. Our results provide bounds on anomalous enhancements of NC Delta radiative decay and disfavor a candidate photon interpretation of the MiniBooNE low-energy excess.

Reactor antineutrino anomaly in light of recent flux model refinements

C. Giunti et al.

Summary: This study investigates the reactor antineutrino anomaly in light of recent reactor flux models obtained with conversion and summation methods. The results show that the predictions of the Kurchatov Institute (KI) conversion model and the Estienne-Fallot (EF) summation model are consistent with the reactor rates and fuel evolution data, leading to a plausible solution to the reactor antineutrino anomaly.

MicroBooNE and the νe Interpretation of the MiniBooNE Low-Energy Excess

C. A. Arguelles et al.

Summary: A new generation of neutrino experiments is testing the anomalous excess of electronlike events observed in MiniBooNE. This is of huge importance for particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology. The recent results from MicroBooNE are promising, but they do not fully explore the parameter space of sterile neutrino models hinted at by MiniBooNE and other data, nor do they probe the MiniBooNE excess in a model-independent way.

Search for an Excess of Electron Neutrino Interactions in MicroBooNE Using Multiple Final-State Topologies

P. Abratenko et al.

Summary: In this study, we measure the v e interactions from the Fermilab Booster Neutrino Beam using the MicroBooNE liquid argon time projection chamber and investigate the nature of the excess of low energy interactions observed by the MiniBooNE Collaboration. Three independent v e searches are conducted across multiple single electron final states. The results, obtained with different signal topologies, statistics, backgrounds, reconstruction algorithms, and analysis approaches, are found to be consistent with or slightly lower than the expected v e rate from the Booster Neutrino Beam, and no excess of v e events is observed.

Quasi-sterile neutrinos from dark sectors. Part I. BSM matter effects in neutrino oscillations and the short-baseline anomalies

Daniele S. M. Alves et al.

Summary: The article investigates the impact of quasi-sterile neutrino models on neutrino oscillations, particularly the phenomenon of active neutrinos resonantly oscillating into quasi-sterile neutrinos under specific energy and matter density conditions. The study finds that the model can explain the anomalies observed in the MiniBooNE and LSND experiments and is compatible with observations from long-baseline reactor and accelerator-based neutrino experiments.

Search for an anomalous excess of charged-current quasielastic νe interactions with the MicroBooNE experiment using Deep-Learning-based reconstruction

P. Abratenko et al.

Summary: This study presents a measurement of the nu(e)-interaction rate in the MicroBooNE detector and addresses the MiniBooNE anomalous low-energy excess. By using unique techniques, such as deep learning-based image identification and event isolation, the analysis successfully identifies 25 nu(e)-candidate events in the reconstructed neutrino energy range of 200-1200 MeV. The results also indicate that the analysis in MicroBooNE excludes a certain normalization factor of the MiniBooNE LEE signal strength.

Improved measurement of neutrino oscillation parameters by the NOvA experiment

M. A. Acero et al.

Summary: The NOvA experiment presents new oscillation measurements for different neutrino types. The results show a preference for a normal mass ordering and values of the mixing angle in the upper octant. The data also disfavor certain combinations of oscillation parameters that lead to a large asymmetry in neutrino and antineutrino appearance rates.

Search for an anomalous excess of inclusive charged-current νe interactions in the MicroBooNE experiment using Wire-Cell reconstruction

P. Abratenko et al.

Summary: We report a search for an anomalous excess of inclusive charged-current (CC) νe interactions using the Wire-Cell event reconstruction package in the MicroBooNE experiment. The measurements of νμ CC interactions and π0 interactions with a liquid argon time projection chamber detector are used to constrain signal and background predictions of νe CC interactions. The analysis of the data set collected from February 2016 to July 2018 shows that the hypothesis of the presence of a signal strength in the MiniBooNE observation is rejected, while the hypothesis of the absence of a signal strength is consistent with the observation.

Improved eV-scale sterile-neutrino constraints from the second KATRIN measurement campaign

M. Aker et al.

Summary: We present the results of the light sterile neutrino search from the second Karlsruhe Tritium Neutrino (KATRIN) measurement campaign in 2019. No sterile-neutrino signal was observed, and improved exclusion contours on certain parameters were provided. The study also excluded certain solutions related to reactor antineutrino and gallium anomalies. KATRIN is the only laboratory experiment sensitive to solutions at large Delta m(41)(2) through a robust spectral shape analysis.

Search for electron-neutrino transitions to sterile states in the BEST experiment

V. V. Barinov et al.

Summary: The Baksan Experiment on Sterile Transitions (BEST) investigates the gallium anomaly and its connection to oscillations between active and sterile neutrinos. The experiment uses two liquid gallium target zones to explore neutrino oscillations on a meter scale. The results show deficits in the Ge-71 production rates in both zones, consistent with the previously reported gallium anomaly. The best-fit oscillation parameters suggest nu(e) -> nu(s) oscillations governed by a surprisingly large mixing angle.

Explaining the MiniBooNE excess through a mixed model of neutrino oscillation and decay

S. Vergani et al.

Summary: The MiniBooNE experiment's observation of electronlike excess can be explained by a new model involving a low mass state participating in neutrino oscillations and a high mass state decaying to nu + gamma. The fitting of energy and scattering angle data shows a narrow joint allowed region for the decay contribution at 95% confidence level. This model predicts that the FNAL short baseline program may not observe clear oscillation signatures due to low signal levels.

Two-Higgs doublet solution to the LSND, MiniBooNE and muon g-2 anomalies

Waleed Abdallah et al.

Summary: This study shows that by adding a second Higgs doublet to the Standard Model and combining it with a singlet scalar in the dark sector, anomalies in LSND and MB can be explained while maintaining compatibility with the null result from KARMEN, providing a portal to the dark sector and accounting for the observed muon g - 2 value. The use of three singlet neutrinos allows for an understanding of observed neutrino mass-squared differences via a Type I seesaw, with good fits obtained to energy and angular distributions in both experiments.

M. Andriamirado et al.

Summary: The PROSPECT experiment at Oak Ridge National Laboratory presented detailed findings on sterile neutrino oscillation and U-235 (nu) over bar (e) energy spectrum measurements. Results show no statistically significant indication of (nu) over bar (e) oscillating to sterile neutrinos and disfavor the reactor antineutrino anomaly best-fit point at the 2.5 sigma confidence level. The reported U-235 (nu) over bar (e) energy spectrum measurement exhibits good agreement with energy spectrum models and disfavors the hypothesis that U-235 (nu) over bar (e) are solely responsible for spectrum discrepancies observed at commercial reactor cores.
