The Mg/MAX-phase composite for hydrogen storage

A. M. Lakhnik et al.

Summary: The Mg/MAX-phase composite materials were synthesized by reactive ball milling in a hydrogen gas atmosphere, and the phase composition and dehydrogenation performance of the composites were investigated. The Ti3AlC2 MAX-phase significantly reduces the dehydrogenation temperature of MgH2, and the highest hydrogen capacity achieved was 5.6 wt%. The kinetic mechanism of the dehydrogenation was investigated using the JMAK technique.

Ti3AlC2/Pd Composites for Efficient Hydrogen Production from Alkaline Formaldehyde Solutions

Xiaogang Liu et al.

Summary: This study explores the use of Ti3AlC2 MAX phase as a support for palladium nanoparticles to catalyze the removal of formaldehyde and production of hydrogen under mild conditions. By optimizing the experimental conditions, the Ti3AlC2/Pd catalyst exhibits a higher capability for hydrogen production and a lower apparent activation energy compared to conventional Pd nanoparticles. These results suggest that the Ti3AlC2/Pd catalyst can effectively eliminate formaldehyde while generating clean hydrogen.

Corrosion mechanism of Ti2AlC MAX phase coatings under the synergistic effects of water vapor and solid NaCl at 600 °C

Zhenyu Wang et al.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of Ti2AlC MAX phase coatings on 1Cr11Ni2W2MoV substrates in NaCl deposit in water vapor at 600 degrees C was investigated. The substrates experienced serious corrosion, while the coatings showed better performance, with less mass gain per unit area due to the formation of a dense and uniform corrosion scale. The corrosion scale, composed of NaxTiyOz fine grains and amorphous Al2O3 phases, self-healed defects during corrosion, benefiting from the novel layered structure of MAX phase.

Synthesis, sintering, and effect of surface roughness on oxidation of submicron Ti2AlC ceramics

Sylvain Badie et al.

Summary: The research successfully synthesized submicron Ti2AlC MAX phase powder using molten salt shielded synthesis, and utilized field-assisted sintering technology/spark plasma sintering to enhance densification. Different surface treatments resulted in variations in the characteristics of the aluminum oxide and titanium dioxide oxide layers formed in dense monolithic Ti2AlC under oxidation at 1200 degrees C in static air.

Mechanism for breakaway oxidation of the Ti2AlC MAX phase

Sylvain Badie et al.

Summary: The study reveals the mechanism of breakaway oxidation of Ti2AlC MAX phase, identifying the main trigger and proposing solutions to avoid it. It involves rumpling, blistering, and surface exposure stages, leading to collapse of the oxide scale and consumption of the Ti2AlC base material.
