Vibrationally resolved absorption spectra and ultrafast exciton dynamics in α-phase and β-phase zinc phthalocyanine aggregates

Shishi Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, the vibrationally resolved absorption spectra and ultrafast exciton dynamics of alpha-phase and beta-phase zinc phthalocyanine aggregates were investigated theoretically. The results show that the absorption peaks in the Q-band region have different origins and behaviors in the two phases. Additionally, the aggregates of both phases tend to temporarily fall into intermediate states after photoexcitation.

Symmetry-Breaking Charge Separation in Molecular Constructs for Efficient Light Energy Conversion

Ebin Sebastian et al.

Summary: Symmetry-breaking charge separation (SB-CS) plays a crucial role in organic photovoltaics. This review evaluates the fundamentals of photosynthetic reaction centers and discusses the impact of molecular structure on SB-CS and charge recombination (CR). By summarizing the kinetic processes, new design principles are proposed to optimize the performance of light-energy conversion devices.

Spotlight on Charge-Transfer Excitons in Crystalline Textured n-Alkyl Anilino Squaraine Thin Films

Frank Balzer et al.

Summary: The absorption features of prototypical n-alkyl-terminated anilino squaraines for photovoltaic applications were investigated. It was found that these compounds exhibit double-hump absorption characteristics in the green and deep-red spectral range. Crystalline, textured thin films were used for polarized spectromicroscopy, and theoretical modeling was employed to understand the contribution of different excitons to the overall transition dipole moment and its effect on polarization behavior.

Self-Powered broadband photodetection of copper phthalocyanine by enhancing photogating effect with monolayer MoS2 flakes

Navaneeth K. Krishnan et al.

Summary: In this study, a self-powered broadband photodetector utilizing a lateral heterojunction between MoS2 and CuPc was demonstrated. The interfacial built-in potential and modulation of optoelectronic properties led to superior UV-Vis-NIR broadband photoresponse. Additionally, the device showed a faster response speed and self-powered operation, making it advantageous compared to conventional photogating-based devices.

Perspectives in Dye Chemistry: A Rational Approach toward Functional Materials by Understanding the Aggregate State

David Bialas et al.

Summary: The past 20 years have seen a renaissance in dye chemistry, transitioning from traditional colorant research to functional materials. Functional material properties are governed by intermolecular interactions, rather than molecular structure alone. Future research should focus on developing larger oligomers and being guided by theoretical predictions.

Strong Photophysical Diversity and the Role of Charge Transfer Excitons in Transition Metal Phthalocyanine β-Phases

Louis P. Doctor et al.

Summary: The study investigated the photophysics of three transition metal phthalocyanines in their beta-phase using different experimental techniques. It was found that tiny differences in structure and intermolecular orbital overlap can model the differences in photoluminescence signals. Additionally, the results emphasized the need for a detailed microscopic understanding of organic semiconductors for their application potential.
