Design of need-based phosphors and scintillators by compositional modulation in the ZnGa2-xAlxO4:Cr3+ spinel: pure compound versus solid solutions

Santosh K. Gupta et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of chromium-doped spinel materials were synthesized using defect engineering doping strategy, and it was found that the doping with Cr and Al in ZnGa2O4 improved the photo and radioluminescence, while Ga doping in ZnAl2O4 did not show significant effects. Furthermore, the persistent luminescence (PerL) under UV was lower with higher Al3+ content and wider band gap, and the X-ray excited emission was enhanced in the solid solution due to decreased cation inversion and associated defects.

Method to Measure the Degree of Reduction of Eu3+ to Eu2+: How Anion and Cation Vacancies Influence the Degree of Reduction

Przemyslaw J. Deren et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the reduction degree of Eu3+ to Eu2+ and quantum efficiency of Eu2+ emission, revealing the impact of defects such as calcium and oxygen vacancies on the reduction process. By studying samples synthesized in sol-gel and solid-state, and identifying defects using IR measurements, a new method based on magnetic measurements is proposed.

Influence of interstitial UO22+ doping on the valence control of Eu and energy transfer to substitutional Eu3+ and Sm3+ in SrBPO5

P. Vinodkumar et al.

Summary: In this study, the structural and optical properties of stillwellite type SrBPO5 doped with uranium/europium/samarium were investigated, with uranium co-doping significantly influencing the valence distribution of Eu and enhancing the emission intensities of trivalent Eu and Sm. Additionally, the presence of uranium further amplified the Eu3+ luminescence intensity due to the partial oxidation of Eu2+ to Eu3+, providing potential for tuning the Eu-SrBPO5 phosphor to different CIE coordinates.

Multiphoton light emission in barium stannate perovskites driven by oxygen vacancies, Eu3+ and La3+: accessing the role of defects and local structures

Santosh K. Gupta et al.

Summary: Defect engineering has been identified as the most efficient method to manipulate the performance of perovskite materials in photon conversion. Eu3+ doping in BaSnO3 results in orange and red emissions, with energy transfer from defect levels to valence band maximum contributing to an internal quantum yield of approximately 21%.
