Image-based characterization of laser scribing quality using transfer learning

Mohammad Najjartabar Bisheh et al.

Summary: This paper presents a study on image-based characterization of laser scribing quality using a deep transfer learning model. By training on a small dataset, the proposed TDCNN model is able to effectively measure debris, scribe width, and scribe straightness, achieving an accuracy of 97% on the large dataset.

Engineered net shaping of alumina ceramics using picosecond laser

I Esmail et al.

Summary: The study focuses on optimizing picosecond laser processing parameters to achieve precise and defect-free cut geometries on industrial grade alumina ceramics. By using a circular wobble laser pattern, it was found that greater cut depths can be achieved at lower linear speeds and wobble frequencies. The research also introduced optimal process parameters for balancing quality and material removal rate.

Summary: Ceramics are solid compounds composed of inorganic and non-metallic components bound by strong ionic and/or covalent bonds. While they exhibit excellent mechanical and physical properties like refractoriness, compressive strength, chemical inertness, and hardness, ceramics face challenges due to high brittleness and low shear strength during machining.
