Nanomolar effective report of tetra-cationic silver(II) porphyrins against non-tuberculous mycobacteria in antimicrobial photodynamic approaches

Kevim Bordignon Guterres et al.

Summary: In this study, the photoinactivation evaluation of Ag(II) porphyrins in the antimicrobial photodynamic therapy of rapidly growing mycobacterial strains was reported. The results showed that Ag(II) porphyrins significantly reduced the concentration of viable mycobacteria and induced potential structural damage.

Imipenem/Cilastatin/Relebactam: A Review in Gram-Negative Bacterial Infections

Young-A. Heo

Summary: Imipenem/cilastatin/relebactam is an effective option for treating gram-negative infections in adults, showing noninferiority to piperacillin/tazobactam in HABP/VABP patients and efficacy against imipenem-nonsusceptible infections. It is generally well tolerated and has potential as a therapy for infections caused by carbapenem-resistant pathogens.

Investigation of powerful fungicidal activity of tetra-cationic platinum(II) and palladium(II) porphyrins by antimicrobial photodynamic therapy assays

Stefania C. Pinto et al.

Summary: This study reported enhanced antimicrobial photoinactivation using tetra-cationic porphyrins with peripheral platinum(II) and palladium(II) complexes against fungal dermatophyte strains. Among the six different positively charged porphyrins tested in antimicrobial photodynamic therapy experiments, the most effective PS meta isomer 3PtP significantly reduced the concentration of viable fungal colony under white-light irradiation for 120 min. Tetra-cationic porphyrins containing platinum(II)-bipyridyl complexes may be promising fungicidal aPDT agents with potential applications in future clinical cases.

Techniques for the Assessment of In Vitro and In Vivo Antifungal Combinations

Anne-Laure Bidaud et al.

Summary: Systemic fungal infections have high mortality rates despite adequate treatment, and acquired resistance to antifungals is increasing. Using antifungal combinations is one strategy to overcome resistance, with the checkerboard method being the most widely used technique for assessing drug interactions. Evaluating the efficacy of antifungal combinations in vivo using animal models is crucial, with new alternative models in invertebrates showing promise.

Photoinactivation of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Biofilm by Dicationic Diaryl-Porphyrin

Viviana Teresa Orlandi et al.

Summary: Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is gaining attention as a promising tool for treating microbial infections and sanitizing environments. A study on a panel of photosensitizers found that dicationic diaryl-porphyrins show potential in efficiently photoinactivating Pseudomonas aeruginosa, including inhibiting biofilm formation. These findings suggest the potential applicability of dicationic diaryl-porphyrins in different fields for combating difficult-to-treat microbes like P. aeruginosa.

Summary: This manuscript investigates the photophysical properties of tetra-cisplatin porphyrin derivatives and their antimicrobial photoinactivation effects against Gram + and Gram - bacterial strains. The results suggest that the compound substituted at the meta position is the most efficient photosensitizer against bacterial cultures, indicating potential applications of tetra-cationic porphyrins containing cisplatin derivatives in clinical infections.
