A high-throughput amplicon sequencing approach for population-wide species diversity and composition survey

Wee Tek Tay et al.

Summary: Management of agricultural pests requires understanding of their diversity, interactions with beneficial insects, and spatial-temporal patterns of abundance. This study presents a high throughput sequencing method for rapidly surveying pest species compositions using the taxonomically challenging Bemisia pest complex as an example. The method effectively detected both the pest species and beneficial parasitoid species, and revealed that species compositions can be influenced by host crops and sampling techniques.

Screening for insecticide resistance in Australian field populations of Bemisia tabaci (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) using bioassays and DNA sequencing

Cao Fang (Grace) et al.

Summary: This study used high-throughput sequencing and bioassays to analyze the species composition and resistance allele genotypes of Bemisia tabaci populations in Australian cotton fields. The results showed the presence of multiple resistance alleles in field populations, along with variations in allele frequencies and different levels of resistance.

Spirotetramat resistance in Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) and its association with the presence of the A2666V mutation

Paul A. Umina et al.

Summary: Our study provides evidence of spirotetramat resistance in Australian populations of M. persicae, including cross-resistance to other insecticides within the same chemical group. Resistance is associated with the A2226V mutation in the target site of spirotetramat. All resistant populations belong to the same multi-locus clonal type and carry the A2226V mutation as a dominant trait.

Efficacy of buprofezin, pyriproxyfen and spirotetramat against Bemisia tabaci MEAM1 nymphal field populations in Florida

Bruno Rossitto De Marchi et al.

Summary: The field populations of B. tabaci MEAM1 showed varying levels of tolerance to different insecticides, with spirotetramat being the least effective and pyriproxyfen and buprofezin being highly effective. In contrast, the lab colony of B. tabaci MED exhibited different responses to the same insecticides, suggesting differences in susceptibility between field and laboratory populations.
