Examining Health Outcomes in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Genetic Epidemiology Study

Sarah L. N. Clarke et al.

Summary: This study explores the genetic correlation between juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and various health outcomes. The findings suggest a strong genetic correlation between JIA and rheumatoid arthritis, hypothyroidism/myxedema, celiac disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, coronary artery disease, number of noncancer illnesses, paternal health, and strenuous sports. The study also provides evidence that JIA's genetic liability is causally associated with an increased number of noncancer illnesses reported by UK Biobank participants.

Determinants of Intima-Media Thickness in the Young The ALSPAC Study

Scott T. Chiesa et al.

Summary: The study found that among young people, fat-free mass and systolic blood pressure are the only modifiable risk factors positively associated with cIMT, while fat mass is negatively associated with cIMT. Cumulative exposure to these factors during adolescence can affect changes in cIMT, and risk factor-associated differences in the radial artery mainly occur in the media layer.

Summary: Children with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) have been found to exhibit higher CIMT and LVMi, as well as lower FMD as non-invasive cardiovascular risk markers, indicating early cardiovascular dysfunction.

Adiposity Is Related to Inflammatory Disease Activity in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

Gisela Diaz-Cordoves Rego et al.

Summary: The study found that JIA patients with higher disease activity were more likely to have overweight/obesity and higher fat tissue accumulation. Factors associated with overweight/obesity in patients included longer duration of therapy with biological drugs and lack of physical activity. Factors associated with fat mass index (FMI) included age, disease activity, and physical activity.

Combined genetic analysis of juvenile idiopathic arthritis clinical subtypes identifies novel risk loci, target genes and key regulatory mechanisms

Elena Lopez-Isac et al.

Summary: In a large-scale JIA GWAS, five novel risk loci were identified, and the potential function of JIA association signals was described. This information will be informative for future experimental works and therapeutic strategies.
