Overexpression of aldolase, fructose-bisphosphate C and its association with spheroid formation in colorectal cancer

Ryota Maruyama et al.

Summary: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. This study found that ALDOC is overexpressed in spheroid-forming cells of CRC and its knockdown leads to reduced proliferation, migration, invasion, and lactate production. ALDOC-positive expression is associated with poorer prognosis in CRC patients and is an independent prognostic factor. ALDOC expression is also associated with CD44 expression, suggesting its important role in CRC progression and cancer stem cells.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

KIFC1 Is Associated with Basal Type, Cisplatin Resistance, PD-L1 Expression and Poor Prognosis in Bladder Cancer

Yohei Sekino et al.

Summary: The study revealed that KIFC1 expression is positive in bladder cancer, associated with poor prognosis, basal type BC, TP53 alterations, and increased sensitivity to cisplatin when knocked down. Moreover, KIFC1-positive cases were related to p53-positive cases and poor prognosis in patients treated with cisplatin-based chemotherapy. The results suggest that KIFC1 could serve as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in bladder cancer.

KIFC1 regulates ZWINT to promote tumor progression and spheroid formation in colorectal cancer

Shintaro Akabane et al.

Summary: CRC is the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. This study explores the role of KIFC1 and ZWINT in CRC progression, finding that KIFC1 expression is associated with poorer overall survival and inhibiting KIFC1 can reduce cell proliferation. Additionally, ZWINT is significantly correlated with KIFC1 expression and ZWINT-positive cases exhibit worse overall survival.
