Life tables of annual life expectancy and mortality for companion dogs in the United Kingdom

Kendy Tzu-yun Teng et al.

Summary: This study utilized VetCompass data to develop life tables for the UK companion dog population, broken down by sex, Kennel Club breed group, and common breeds. The results showed variations in life expectancy at age 0 among different genders and breeds. These life tables provide valuable insights into the life trajectory of different types of dogs and have significant implications for improving canine health and welfare.

Molecular survey of vector-borne diseases in two groups of domestic dogs from Lisbon, Portugal

Ana Mafalda Dordio et al.

Summary: This study detected canine vector-borne bacteria and protozoa in dogs from southern Portugal using molecular methods. The most commonly found infections were Hepatozoon spp., Mycoplasma spp., Anaplasma spp./Ehrlichia spp., and Babesia spp. DNA sequencing identified specific species such as B. canis and M. haematoparvum. The importance of molecular methods in identifying CVBD pathogens and guiding veterinarians' clinical approach was highlighted.

Maria Magdalena Alcover et al.

Summary: The study revealed the existence of asymptomatic L. infantum infection in apparently healthy stray cats in Zaragoza, Spain using serological tests and qPCR. The overall infection rate was 15.6%, with a significant association found between male cats and positive qPCR results. Fair agreements were found between blood qPCR and IFAT, blood qPCR and ELISA, WB and ELISA, and WB and IFAT.

Skin Lesions in Feline Leishmaniosis: A Systematic Review

Francesca Abramo et al.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the clinical dermatological presentation of feline leishmaniosis, finding nodules to be the most common clinical signs and that the presence of Leishmania in lesioned skin was mainly assessed by cytology. The study identified six Leishmania species responsible for skin lesions, and reported coinfections by FIV or FeLV in a significant proportion of cases. Clinical data including treatment were analyzed and discussed to provide guidelines for proper management of the disease.
