Correlational analysis of chemokine and inflammatory cytokine expression in the intervertebral disc and blood in patients with lumbar disc disease

Summary: The study investigated the involvement of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines in pain in patients with lumbar degenerative disc disease. The findings showed correlations between chemokine and inflammatory cytokine gene expression levels in IVD tissues and WB samples in relation to pain intensity. WB CCR6 and IL-6 gene expression levels were significantly correlated with present pain, maximum pain, and average pain, but not with low back pain.
