Ketone-Olefin Coupling of Aliphatic and Aromatic Carbonyls Catalyzed by Excited-State Acridine Radicals

Nicholas J. Venditto et al.

Summary: This article introduces a mild and metal-free ketone-olefin coupling reaction using an excited-state acridine radical super reductant as a photoredox catalyst. Both intramolecular and intermolecular ketone-olefin couplings of aliphatic and aromatic ketones and aldehydes are demonstrated, along with mechanistic evidence supporting an olefin-first ketone-olefin coupling mechanism.

Synthesis of carbinoxamine via α-C(sp3)-H 2-pyridylation of O, S or N-containing compounds enabled by non-D-A-type super organoreductants and sulfoxide- or sulfide HAT reagents

Xian-Chao Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, we report a new photocatalytic method for the 2- or 4-pyridylation of compounds containing O, N, or S groups, using the organic photoreductant CBZ6 and sulfoxides or sulfides as HAT reagents. This is the first base-free version of the alpha-C-H 2-/4-pyridylation of compounds containing ethers, amines, or thioethers.

CBZ6 as a Recyclable Organic Photoreductant for Pinacol Coupling

Hua Wang et al.

Summary: The recyclable organic photoreductant CBZ6 catalyzes the reductive coupling of aldehydes, ketones, and imines under purple light irradiation, producing 1,2-diols and 1,2-diamines. With a high oxidation potential, CBZ6 is suitable for the reductive coupling of carbonyl compounds and their derivatives, making it a promising candidate for large-scale photoreductive synthesis.
