Terahertz spin-selective perfect absorption enabled by quasi-bound states in the continuum

Zhonglei Shen et al.

Summary: A terahertz chiral metasurface with a single-layer structure is proposed and demonstrated numerically based on a stereoscopic full metallic resonator array in this work. By using a coupled-mode theory, it is shown that the chiral metasurface can exhibit near-perfect absorption of one circularly polarized wave and non-resonant reflection of its counterparts in the quasi-bound states in the continuum-induced critical coupling region. The linewidths and handedness of the chiral metasurface can be flexibly controlled by an in-plane symmetry perturbation.

Highly-sensitive sensor based on toroidal dipole governed by bound state in the continuum in dielectric non-coaxial core-shell cylinder

Yanyan Huo et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a highly sensitive sensor based on toroidal dipole (TD) governed by bound state in the continuum (BIC) in an all-dielectric metasurface. The sensing performance of the proposed structure is evaluated by investigating the sensitivity and figure of merit (FOM) of nanostructure with different structural parameters.

Dirac semimetal and an all dielectric based tunable ultrasensitive terahertz sensor with multiple bound states in the continuum

Hang Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, we propose an all dielectric, open-slit, U-shaped resonant arm-based meta-surface that achieves three bound states in the continuum (BIC) in the high-frequency terahertz band. The quasi-BIC (QBIC) states of this meta-surface exhibit a Q factor on the magnitude order of 104. Furthermore, the study explores the dependencies of the three QBICs on the THz incidence angle and demonstrates the tunable sensor based on the Dirac semimetal metasurface, which enables active tuning of sensitivity and sensing range.

Guiding-mode-assisted double-BICs in an all-dielectric metasurface

Zixuan Liao et al.

Summary: In this paper, an all-dielectric metasurface is proposed to achieve double resonance-trapped BICs in the transparency window, which provides a new feasible platform for slow light devices in the near-infrared region. The group delay of the EIT is effectively improved due to the ultra-high Q-factor resonance carried by the resonance-trapped quasi-BIC.

Photonic Integrated Circuit for Rapidly Tunable Orbital Angular Momentum Generation Using Sb2Se3 Ultra-Low-Loss Phase Change Material

Md Shah Alam et al.

Summary: This article presents a realistic design of a Si-integrated photonic device for the generation of rapidly tunable OAM waves at a 1550-nm wavelength. By utilizing an ultra-low-loss phase change material embedded in a Si-ring resonator with angular gratings, different OAM modes can be achieved by rapidly switching the effective refractive index. The proposed device is capable of producing rapidly tunable OV beams carrying different OAM modes using electrically controllable ultra-low-loss PCM Sb2Se3.

Plasmonic Bound States in the Continuum in Compact Nanostructures

Qingjia Zhou et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the existence of optical bound states in the continuum (BICs) in a compact corrugated metallic cylinder, with quasi-BICs observed in multiple channels when adjacent grooves have different depths. These BICs are purely plasmonic and result from the destructive interference of two localized surface plasmon modes in the nanostructures.

Bandwidth-tunable near-infrared perfect absorption of graphene in a compound grating waveguide structure supporting quasi-bound states in the continuum

Feng Wu et al.

Summary: By introducing a graphene layer into an all-dielectric compound grating waveguide structure, researchers achieve near-infrared perfect absorption of graphene using the critical coupling theory derived from temporal coupled-mode theory. The absorption rate of the system and the radiation coupling rate of the quasi-BIC can be flexibly tuned by changing the Fermi level and layer number of the graphene, as well as the geometric parameters of the compound grating waveguide structure.

Qingjia Zhou et al.

Summary: Researchers have proposed a method to achieve geometrical-symmetry-free but symmetry-protected bound states in the continuum (BICs) using a zero-index metamaterial (ZIM), finding that these BICs are protected by physical symmetries. This approach provides a way to realize higher-order BICs and link their properties to the disorder of photonic systems.

Dual quasibound states in the continuum in compound grating waveguide structures for large positive and negative Goos-Hanchen shifts with perfect reflection

Feng Wu et al.

Summary: By selectively exciting resonant guided modes in a compound grating waveguide structure, dual bound states in the continuum (dual BICs) are achieved, leading to large positive and negative Gh shifts. Unlike conventional resonance, the shifts assisted by dual quasi-BICs have 100% reflectance, making them easier to detect and utilize in high-performance sensors and light storage devices.
