Advances on Mode-Coupling Theories, Fabrication Techniques, and Applications of the Helical Long-Period Fiber Gratings: A Review

Hua Zhao et al.

Summary: Helical long-period fiber gratings (HLPGs), with their intrinsic helicity characteristics, have attracted significant research interest in the optical field. They have various applications such as mode-converters, torsion sensors, and wave plates, and are expected to find further applications in optical sensors, optical communication, and other fields.

A Long Period Grating Sensor Based on Helical Capillary Optical Fiber

Hongchang Deng et al.

Summary: A high sensitivity long-period fiber grating sensor was proposed for strain and temperature detection, which is insensitive to refractive index change but highly sensitive to stress and temperature. Experimental results showed that the sensor achieved a strain sensitivity of -9.29 pm/mu epsilon and a temperature sensitivity of 17.14 pm/degrees C. The sensor's sensing characteristics are related to the hollow air capillary diameter and twisting pitch of the helical capillary optical fiber.

Analysis of the Lowest Order Cladding Mode of Long Period Fiber Gratings Near Turn Around Point

Tanoy Kumar Dey et al.

Summary: A long period fiber grating sensor with maximum enhancement of the evanescent field working with the lowest order cladding mode has been fabricated and analyzed in terms of dual peak resonance wavelengths and coupling conditions. The sensitivity of the sensor to surrounding refractive index was measured to be 8751 nm/SRIU with a resolution of 10(-5) within a specific SRI range.
