Terahertz laser field manipulation on the electronic and nonlinear optical properties of laterally-coupled quantum well wires

Guanghui Liu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that an intense terahertz laser field can actively manipulate the electronic states and optical absorption coefficients of laterally-coupled quantum well wires (LCQWWs), leading to the creation of laser-dressed quantum states. The resonant peak positions of the absorption coefficients show a blue shift followed by a red shift with an increase in the laser-dressed parameter, and the peak values of linear and nonlinear absorption coefficients are comprehensively discussed. Additionally, the total optical absorption coefficients and refractive index changes can be significantly enhanced by manipulating the laser-dressed parameter in LCQWWs, paving the way for new designs in tunable optical switches, infrared photo-detectors, and modulators.

Restorable, enhanced, and multifaceted tunable optical properties in a coaxial quantum well driven by the electric field and intense laser field

Jingzhao Li et al.

Summary: A new method for regulating the optical properties of a coaxial cylindrical quantum well using electric and intense laser fields has been investigated. The results show that the enhancement and recovery of optical absorption and refractive index change strongly depend on the multifaceted-cooperative regulation of laser parameters, electric field strength, angle between the electric field and laser polarization direction, and barrier width. This method holds promise for the design of highly polarization-sensitive devices and optical phase modulators.

Shape effect on the electronic state and nonlinear optical properties in the regulable Y-shaped quantum dots under applied electric field

Keyin Li et al.

Summary: The electronic state and nonlinear optical properties in Y-shaped quantum dots were theoretically investigated by adjusting the shape and applying an electric field. The results showed that both the strength and orientation of the external electric field, as well as the shape of the Y-shaped quantum dots, significantly influenced the electronic state, optical absorption coefficients, and refractive index changes.

Colloidal quantum dot lasers

Young-Shin Park et al.

Summary: Semiconductor nanocrystals, also known as colloidal quantum dots, offer promising properties for optical-gain media that can be manipulated via colloidal techniques. Recent advances in understanding and controlling light amplification processes have led to breakthroughs in optically pumped continuous-wave lasing and development of novel dual-function electroluminescent devices that also function as optically pumped lasers. This review evaluates the state of colloidal quantum dot lasing and discusses challenges and opportunities in the field.

Polarization-selective absorption in an off-centered core-shell square quantum wire

Verasak Thongnak et al.

Summary: In this study, a numerical investigation was conducted on the defect due to eccentricity in a core-shell square quantum wire using the finite difference approach. It was found that even a small core shift causes fully polarization-dependent transitions and affects the splitting of absorption coefficients due to x- and y-polarized light, resulting in polarization-selective absorption in some photon energy ranges.
