Fabrication of three-dimensional sin-shaped ripples using a multi-tip diamond tool based on the force modulation approach

Yuzhang Wang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel cutting strategy for machining microstructure surface with a multi-tip diamond tool based on the force modulation approach, and investigates the influence of cutting forces on depths of cut and material removal through experiments and MD simulations. The fabrication of periodic sinusoidal microstructures and sin-shaped ripples under constant and variable forces respectively demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the cutting strategy.

Ultra-precision direct diamond shaping of functional micro features

Nicholas Yew Jin Tan et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a method to fabricate non-rotary symmetric, intricate, and freeform elements using Ultra-Precision Machining (UPM) technology, Virtual Rotating Tool Shaping (VRTS), and Direct Diamond Shaping (DDS). VRTS synchronizes linear and rotational motions of the machine to align the tool with the cutting direction, while DDS achieves a combination of linear and rotary features by planing.

Near-perfect broadband metamaterial absorbers of truncated nanocones using colloidal lithography

Zhengjie Guo et al.

Summary: Broadband optical absorbers are essential for various applications such as solar energy harvesting, thermal emitters, and infrared detection. Metallic truncated nanocones demonstrated ultra-broadband absorption in the UV-visible-NIR spectral region, with an average absorptivity of 96.11% and continuous high absorptivity in a wide wavelength range. The interaction of different resonances in the truncated nanocones contributes to the high absorption performance, with potential for practical applications and fabrication feasibility.
