Brain tumors biomedical sensor with high-quality factor and ultra-compact size based on nanocavity 2D photonic crystal

Nazmi A. Mohammed et al.

Summary: Types of brain lesions, tumors, and cancers are still considered deadly. This study presents a biomedical photonic-based sensor that accurately detects and distinguishes between normal and abnormal brain tissues, including lesions, tumors, and cancerous tissues. The sensor achieves high sensitivity, a very low detection limit, and an ultra-high quality factor. The proposed design is characterized by its ultra-compactness and compatibility with current technology. A comparison with non-optical detection techniques and recent photonic-based literature is provided to validate the efficacy and authenticity of the proposed design.

Summary: This study presents the design and manufacture of a flexible magnetic catheter capable of navigating the human anatomy in a follow-the-leader fashion. By optimizing magnetization profiles and using a dual-robot arm system to generate transient magnetic fields, minimal contact navigation through a three-dimensional bronchial tree phantom was achieved. Compared to mechanically equivalent designs, the magnetic catheter demonstrated improved tracking accuracy, reduced obstacle contact time, and decreased targeting errors.

Square structured photonic crystal fiber based THz sensor design for human body protein detection

Md. Aminul Islam et al.

Summary: This manuscript introduces a novel squared hollow-core photonic crystal fiber-sensor for efficient amino acid investigations using THz waves. Through performance analysis with the finite element method, the sensor's waveguide properties for five essential amino acids at various THz frequencies are elaborately assessed. The sensor demonstrates extraordinarily high sensitivity and remarkably low confinement loss for tryptophan, achieved by introducing specific air cavities and channels in the cladding. Additionally, the fabrication method using 3D printing is discussed in detail.

Photonic crystal optical parametric oscillator

Gabriel Marty et al.

Summary: A new class of optical parametric oscillators based on a 20-micrometer-long semiconductor photonic crystal cavity is reported, operating at telecom wavelengths. These oscillators are able to achieve parametric oscillation by thermally tuning high-quality-factor modes into a triply resonant configuration, with a estimated pump power threshold of 50-70 microwatts. This source behaves as an ideal degenerate optical parametric oscillator, paving the way towards efficient nonlinear sources of squeezed light or entangled photons pairs in quantum optical circuits.

PAPR reduction using a combination between precoding and non-liner companding techniques for ACO-OFDM-based VLC systems

Summary: Peak-to-average power ratio reduction techniques for visible light communication broadcasting systems are designed, simulated, and evaluated in this work, aiming to combine low peak-to-average power ratio with acceptable bit error rate performance. Asymmetrically clipped optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing with low peak-to-average power ratio performance becomes more attractive for real-life visible light communication applications due to non-linearity elimination. The proposed schemes are compared and an optimum choice is nominated, while comparing with related literature reviews to ensure validity and effectiveness.
