Data-driven optimization design of a novel pressure hull for AUV

Ming Yang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel design of a ring-stiffened arched cylindrical (RAC) hull for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), and proposes a data-driven approach for efficiently designing pressure hulls with irregular structures. The optimization design of the RAC structure for AUV is performed, and pressure tests are carried out to verify the proposed approach.

Design and optimization of cylindrical hull with non-uniform arch ribs for underwater gliders based on approximate model and experiments

Cheng Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a cylindrical hull with non-uniform arch ribs to increase compressibility and decrease buoyancy factor of underwater vehicles. The optimal hull, obtained through design optimization and verified by finite element method and pressure tests, shows improved deformation and reduced mass compared to a conventional cylindrical hull.

Structural optimization design of typical adhesive bonded sandwich T-joints based on progressive damage analysis and multi-island genetic algorithm

Yiran Niu et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the optimization of multi-laminate structures using MIGA algorithm and CAE solver, with a focus on a typical adhesive bonded sandwich T-joint. By establishing a finite element model based on progressive damage analysis and cohesive zone model, the optimization procedure successfully achieved a weight reduction of 34.24% compared to the initial structure. The study also highlights the influence of design variables on main constraint variables based on historical data.

Fluid-structure modelling for material deformation during cavitation bubble collapse

Prasanta Sarkar et al.

Summary: This paper compares one-way and two-way coupled fluid-structure interaction (FSI) modeling, finding that two-way coupling can more accurately reflect the impact of solid material motion and deformation on bubble dynamics. Two-way coupling can also better analyze the effects of structural response of different materials on bubble dynamics and impact pressures.

Optimal design and strength reliability analysis of pressure shell with grid sandwich structure

Ning Li et al.

Summary: This study focuses on lightweight optimum design of head pressure shell of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) with reliability requirements. A grid sandwich structure is applied and an optimal mathematical model is established, solved by genetic algorithm based on back propagation neural network surrogate model and optimized by particle swarm optimization. Randomness of geometry sizes, material properties and loads are considered for reliability, showing a reduction in weight and successful optimization of the pressure shell design.

A FEM based modeling method for analyzing the static performance of aerostatic thrust bearings considering the fluid-structure interaction

Qiang Gao et al.

Summary: This study proposes a finite element method-based fluid-structure interaction modeling method for aerostatic thrust bearings. By building finite element models for the bearings and thrust plates, and considering the change in discharge coefficient, bidirectional data exchange is achieved. The accuracy of the proposed FSI model is verified numerically and experimentally, reducing the average calculation time significantly in the case study.

Numerical analysis on hydrodynamic characteristics of a deep-sea mining vehicle under three typical motions

Yu Dai et al.

Summary: The numerical analysis on the hydrodynamic characteristics of a deep-sea mining vehicle showed that the turbulent kinetic energy was large near the shape edge of the vehicle and transferred downstream with the flow. Different motions led to variations in spatial hydrodynamic distributions and changes in hydrodynamic coefficients, indicating the need for careful consideration in structure optimization and control system development for the mining vehicle.
