Influence of rounding corners on the wake of a finite-length cylinder: An experimental study

M. Kazemi Esfeh et al.

Summary: The study reveals that both rounding corners (r*) and aspect ratio (AR) have significant effects on the flow structure, including wake topology, strength of streamwise vortices, and vortex shedding frequency. The features of the horseshoe vortex and downwash flow are sensitive to r* and AR, while the Strouhal number increases progressively with increasing r*, regardless of AR.

An experimental study on flow over two finite wall-mounted square cylinders in a staggered arrangement

J. Aboueian et al.

Summary: Wind tunnel measurements were conducted on two finite wall-mounted square cylinders with various normalized cylinder distances. The study identified two flow regimes: single-body and modulated-periodic flow. In the modulated-periodic flow regime, the downstream cylinder experiences higher drag.

Flow and heat transfer across two inline rotating cylinders: Effects of blockage, gap spacing, Reynolds number, and rotation direction

M. R. Rastan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of rotating cylinders on wake dynamics and thermal attributes, focusing on factors such as Reynolds number, cylinder spacing, rotational speed, and computational domain size. Numerical simulations are validated against existing data for single rotating cylinders, and it is found that rotating cylinders require larger computational domains than stationary cylinders. The fluid forces are highly sensitive to cylinder rotation, with a shift from co-rotation to counter-rotation changing the direction of the drag force.

The wake of a wall-mounted rectangular cylinder: Cross-sectional aspect ratio effect

M. R. Rastan et al.

Summary: Large-eddy simulations and parallel experiments were conducted to study the wake dynamics of a wall-mounted finite-length rectangular prism. The results show the influence of the prism cross-sectional aspect ratio on flow separation and reattachment, as well as the formation and evolution mechanisms of vortical structures on the side faces.
