Dynamic modeling and analysis of a tristable vortex-induced vibration energy harvester

Xiaoqing Ma et al.

Summary: This study establishes a dynamic model of a tristable vortex-induced vibration energy harvester (TVIVEH) and analyzes its output voltage and dynamic characteristics numerically and experimentally. The results show that the working wind speed range can be widened and adjusted using a magnetic-coupled tristable configuration. It is found that the TVIVEH has a multi-solution wind speed range, and the vibration orbit and output voltage at the same wind speed are significantly different under different initial conditions. Under appropriate initial conditions, the TVIVEH can potentially realize vibration at the high-energy orbit, improving energy harvesting efficiency.

A quasi-zero stiffness two degree-of-freedom nonlinear galloping oscillator for ultra-low wind speed aeroelastic energy harvesting

Shun Chen et al.

Summary: Inspired by the capability of quasi-zero stiffness (QZS) nonlinearity to maintain low dynamic natural frequency in vibration isolation, a 2DOF QZS nonlinear galloping energy harvester (GEH) is proposed for advanced wind power generation at ultra-low wind speeds. Compared to conventional linear harvesters and bistable harvesters, the 2DOF QZS GEH significantly outperforms in voltage output, especially in the low wind speed region. The effects of key parameters on the performance of 2DOF QZS GEH at low wind speeds are investigated.

Highly conductive, stretchable, durable, breathable electrodes based on electrospun polyurethane mats superficially decorated with carbon nanotubes for multifunctional wearable electronics

Guoxi Luo et al.

Summary: As the use of smart wearable electronics becomes more prevalent, there is a need for stretchable, durable, and breathable electrodes that can easily integrate with the electronics and provide comfort to users over extended periods. However, progress in developing a scalable fabrication process for such electrodes has been limited. In this study, a novel stretchable polymer-carbon nanotube composite electrode was developed using a fibrous polyurethane mat decorated with conductive carbon nanotubes. The fabricated electrodes exhibited superior stretchability, conductivity, stability, durability, and air permeability.

A broadband piezo-electromagnetic hybrid energy harvester under combined vortex-induced and base excitations

Chengwei Hou et al.

Summary: This study proposes a broadband piezo-electromagnetic hybrid energy harvester that can scavenge vortex-induced and base excitation vibration energy simultaneously. Through theoretical analysis and experimental measurement, the accuracy of the theoretical modeling is validated and the output characteristics of the harvester under different excitations are compared. Under combined vortex-induced and base excitations, the harvester achieves significantly higher output power and wider operating band compared to single-excitation harvesters, which shows promising potential for exploring energy harvesting systems with multiple excitation sources.

Hong-Xiang Zou et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a self-regulation strategy for a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG-SS) to achieve a self-powered wind-speed sensor. By rationally designing the centrifugal and nonlinear magnetic forces, the separation and contact degrees of the functional materials of TENG can be automatically adjusted for different wind speeds. Experimental results show that the proposed TENG-SS exhibits better performance and robustness in a natural wind environment.

Wake galloping energy harvesting in heat exchange systems under the influence of ash deposition

Junlei Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes a wake galloping energy harvester for heat exchange systems and investigates the effects of different ash deposition types on energy harvesting performance. The results show that the bell-shaped cylinder is more beneficial for energy harvesting, and the optimal configuration is determined with a space ratio of 1.5 between the upstream and downstream cylinders. Both types of ash deposit cylinders can cause the quenching phenomenon, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) studies explain the underlying mechanisms.
