Bilateral slot exchange and co-allocation for liner alliance carriers of containerized maritime logistics

Jihong Chen et al.

Summary: This study explores how to optimize slot capacity allocation within a container liner alliance under the slot exchange mode. The study establishes a multi-objective slot exchange allocation model and solves the problem using an algorithm. The results show that the model can help container liner alliances develop optimal slot exchange and allocation strategies.

Integrated berth and yard space allocation under uncertainty

Lu Zhen et al.

Summary: Improving operational efficiency of container ports is a major concern for global port operators. This paper proposes a two-stage stochastic integer programming model to optimize tactical and strategic level allocation at container ports. An original decomposition algorithm is developed to address the problem, and numerical experiments validate its effectiveness and efficiency. Some managerial implications for port operators are also obtained.

Evaluation of Ship Pollutant Emissions in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach

Guangnian Xiao et al.

Summary: The role of the shipping industry in international logistics has become increasingly important, but it has also brought about environmental problems. This study analyzed the ship pollutant emissions in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach based on data from 2020, and found that there is a significant difference in emissions based on ship types and sailing states. Additionally, the effectiveness of ECA policies in controlling pollutant emissions varies.

The clustering strategy for stacks allocation in automated container terminals

Hang Yu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the application of a stack-based allocation model in automated container terminals and finds that multi-batch allocation in the same bay is suitable for improving efficiency. The efficiency of automated rail-mounted gantry cranes and vessel berthing time directly affect the total transportation distance of containers.

Evolutionary game analysis on supply side of the implement shore-to-ship electricity

Jihong Chen et al.

Summary: This study examines the role of shore-to-ship electricity technology in port development using evolutionary game theory. Findings indicate that government financial support is crucial for covering the large investment in shore-to-ship electricity infrastructure in the early stages, and collaboration between port companies and power companies is necessary to drive the transformation of shore-to-ship electricity systems.

Quay crane scheduling in automated container terminal for the trade-off between operation efficiency and energy consumption

Caimao Tan et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the automated quay crane scheduling problem for the automated container terminal by decomposing the operation process and formulating it as a mixed integrated programming model. The numerical experiments analyze the quantitative relation between operation efficiency and energy consumption through case studies. Sensitivity analysis of task ratios is also presented, providing a theoretical reference for the study on balancing operation efficiency and energy consumption at the operational level.
