Is adherence to the Mediterranean diet associated with healthy habits and physical fitness? A systematic review and meta-analysis including 565 421 youths

Summary: A meta-analysis study on children and adolescents showed that adherence to the Mediterranean diet was positively associated with physical activity, cardiorespiratory fitness, and muscular fitness, while it was negatively associated with sedentary behavior and speed-agility. However, the associations remained significant only for physical activity when controlling for sex and age.

Summary: This scoping review systematically summarized literature on the relationships between the COVID-19 pandemic and movement behaviors of school-aged children and youth. Results showed significant declines in physical activity, increases in screen time and sedentary behavior, delayed bed and wake times, and increased sleep duration, with greater impacts on youth compared to children. Urgent action is needed to address adverse changes in physical activity and screen time among children and youth.
