Ultradilute Quantum Droplets in the Presence of Higher-Order Quantum Fluctuations

Abdelaali Boudjemaa et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the effects of higher-order quantum fluctuations on the bulk properties of self-bound droplets in three-, two- and one-dimensional binary Bose mixtures using the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory. We calculate higher-order corrections to the equation of state of the droplet at both zero and finite temperatures and show that our results are consistent with recent quantum Monte Carlo simulations. We find that thermal fluctuations may destabilize and eventually destroy the droplet state at finite temperatures. In two dimensions, we observe that the droplet occurs at temperatures lower than the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless transition temperature.

New states of matter with fine-tuned interactions: quantum droplets and dipolar supersolids

Fabian Boettcher et al.

Summary: This paper discusses how quantum fluctuations can stabilize Bose-Einstein condensates and lead to the emergence of new states of matter such as liquid-like self-bound quantum droplets and supersolid crystals. The properties of these exotic states and the experimental progress in dipolar quantum gases and Bose-Bose mixtures are reviewed. Important open questions for future research are also outlined.

Zero-energy modes of two-component Bose-Bose droplets

Pawel Zin et al.

Summary: Bose-Bose droplets are self-bound objects formed from a mixture of interacting Bose-Einstein condensates, breaking three continuous symmetries in the system. This study provides analytic expressions for zero-energy excitations and introduces Hamiltonians for the dynamics of droplet motion and wavefunction phase evolution. By focusing on a few key degrees of freedom, such as droplet center of mass and wavefunction phases, the complex quantum system can be described effectively, which may have applications in studying low energy collisions of quantum droplets.

Many-body and temperature effects in two-dimensional quantum droplets in Bose-Bose mixtures

Abdelaali Boudjemaa

Summary: In this study, equilibrium properties of self-bound droplets in two-dimensional Bose mixtures were analyzed using the time-dependent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory, which provides insights into many-body and temperature effects beyond the Lee-Huang-Yang description. Higher-order corrections to excitations, sound velocity, and energy of droplets were calculated, showing good agreement with diffusion Monte Carlo data for ground-state energy. The critical temperature for droplet emergence at finite temperature was found to depend strongly on interspecies interactions, with extensions to finite-size droplets achieved through numerical solutions of the generalized Gross-Pitaevskii equation in the local density approximation.

Quantum droplets in a dipolar Bose gas at a dimensional crossover

Pawel Zin et al.

Summary: The study focuses on beyond-mean-field corrections to the energy of a dipolar Bose gas confined in two dimensions, showing that the system becomes unstable at a critical strength of the dipolar interaction. The ground state is strongly affected by the corrections, leading to the formation of a self-bound droplet, which can be stabilized at finite density by an effective three-body repulsion in the limit of strong confinement.
