Electronic effects on protective mechanism of electropolymerized coatings based on N-substituted aniline derivatives for mild steel in saline solution

Hao Liu et al.

Summary: Polyaniline, poly(N-methylaniline), and poly(N-formylanilide) coatings were prepared on mild steel using chronoamperometric strategy in an oxalate electrolyte. The coatings were evaluated for their anticorrosive effects, and it was found that poly(N-formylanilide) exhibited the highest protection capacity among the three coatings. Electroactivity and physical barrier were identified as critical factors for long-term corrosion protection.

Hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity consideration of organic surfactant compounds: Effect of alkyl chain length on corrosion protection

Chandrabhan Verma et al.

Summary: Organic compounds are recognized as effective corrosion protective measures, but their usage and synthesis can lead to the consumption and release of harmful materials. Only a few manufactured compounds are effective in corrosion inhibition. Surfactant molecules with alkyl substituents of moderate size are found to be effective in aqueous phase corrosion inhibition. The length of the alkyl/hydrocarbon chain plays a role in the inhibition potential, with longer chains generally favoring inhibition performance. However, excessive hydrophobicity hinders the inhibition performance. The hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity of the compounds can be tailored by varying the number and size of the hydrocarbon chain. Organic compounds with C12-C16 hydrocarbon chain length exhibit the best inhibition efficiency. The compounds adsorb on the metal surface and act as mixed- and interface-type corrosion inhibitors.

Samy M. Shaban et al.

Summary: This study prepared and tested three new phospho-surfactants as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in aggressive HCl medium. The results showed that the surfactant tail length had a significant impact on the corrosion protection process, with longer chain surfactants exhibiting higher inhibition efficiency. The highest inhibition efficiency was achieved at 70 degrees C, following Langmuir adsorption isotherm, with ZGH surfactant showing the highest efficiency compared to other candidates.

Siguang Meng et al.

Summary: The ethanolic extract of sugarcane purple rind (SPRE) was evaluated as an efficient corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel (C-steel) in 1 M HCl solution. The inhibition efficiency increased with the concentration of SPRE, while a rise in temperature moderately impaired the anticorrosive efficacy. Despite the slight impact of temperature, SPRE remained effective even at higher temperatures.
