A Machine Learning-Based Holistic Approach to Predict the Clinical Course of Patients within the Alzheimer's Disease Spectrum

Noemi Massetti et al.

Summary: This study used machine learning to predict the conversion from mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer's disease (AD) and achieved 86% accuracy. Neuropsychological test scores, MRI data, and cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers were found to be the most relevant features for prediction. The study highlights the importance of multiple pathological mechanisms and factors in AD development, which are influenced by age and sex.

Early dementia diagnosis, MCI-to-dementia risk prediction, and the role of machine learning methods for feature extraction from integrated biomarkers, in particular for EEG signal analysis

Paolo Maria Rossini et al.

Summary: Dementia is one of the most frightening emergencies for the aging population, and cognitive decline takes several years to develop. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is considered an early stage, with about half of the cases progressing to AD. Graph analysis tools and machine learning methods can identify distinctive features of brain aging and aid in early diagnosis and personalized risk evaluation.

Ensemble Machine Learning of Random Forest, AdaBoost and XGBoost for Vertical Total Electron Content Forecasting

Randa Natras et al.

Summary: This study investigates different learning algorithms to model nonlinear space weather processes and forecast VTEC for 1 h and 24 h in the future. The results show that multi-tree ensemble learning outperforms single Decision Tree, especially in both quiet and storm conditions. The meta-estimator Voting Regressor provides the lowest RMSE and the highest correlation coefficients by averaging predictions from different well-performing models. Furthermore, enhancing the learning of space weather features can be achieved by expanding the input dataset with time derivatives, moving averages, and daily differences, as well as modifying data.
