Esophageal Dysmotility Is Associated With Disease Severity in Eosinophilic Esophagitis

Dustin A. Carlson et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the characteristics of secondary peristalsis in patients with EoE and found that abnormal esophageal contractions were associated with disease severity.

Validation of secondary peristalsis classification using FLIP panometry in 741 subjects undergoing manometry

Dustin A. Carlson et al.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated a classification scheme of secondary peristalsis using FLIP panometry by comparing it with primary peristalsis on HRM. The results showed that different contractile response patterns can reflect various pathophysiological states of esophageal peristalsis. The findings suggest that FLIP panometry can facilitate the evaluation of esophageal motility.

Classifying Esophageal Motility by FLIP Panometry: A Study of 722 Subjects With Manometry

Dustin A. Carlson et al.

Summary: This study describes a classification of esophageal motility using FLIP panometry and compares it with HRM and CCv4.0. The results suggest that FLIP has the potential to evaluate esophageal motility disorders and aligns with the information provided by HRM and CCv4.0.

Esophageal Hypervigilance and Symptom-Specific Anxiety in Patients with Eosinophilic Esophagitis

Tiffany H. Taft et al.

Summary: The study on EoE patients found that esophageal symptom-specific anxiety was the most important predictor of severity in dysphagia questionnaires, EoE activity index, and poor health-related quality of life. Hypervigilance was also important, while pathophysiological variables did not significantly predict symptoms or health-related quality of life.

Evaluating esophageal motility beyond primary peristalsis: Assessing esophagogastric junction opening mechanics and secondary peristalsis in patients with normal manometry

Dustin A. Carlson et al.

Summary: The study found that most symptomatic patients with normal esophageal motility on HRM also have normal FLIP Panometry results; however, abnormal findings can still be observed in some cases. Complementary tests, such as provocative maneuvers with HRM and timed barium esophagram, are useful to determine clinical context in these patients.
