Dementia screening in rural-dwelling Chinese older adults: The utility of a smell test and the self-rated AD8

Yi Dong et al.

Summary: The study found that olfactory impairment is associated with dementia, making it a clinical marker for all-cause dementia, AD, and VaD. Combining the smell identification test with a brief self-rated cognitive screening tool provides accurate dementia screening for rural-dwelling Chinese older adults with no or limited education.

Association and interaction of TOMM40 and PVRL2 with plasma amyloid- ? and Alzheimer?s disease among Chinese older adults: a population-based study

Xiaoyan Liang et al.

Summary: This study examined the associations and interactions between TOMM40 and PVRL2 genes, Alzheimer's disease risk, and plasma biomarkers in Chinese older adults. The results showed that TOMM40 genotype is associated with AD risk depending on APOE genotype, and TOMM40 and PVRL2 genes may interact to increase AD risk through influencing A beta metabolism.

The Hippo pathway component Wwc2 is a key regulator of embryonic development and angiogenesis in mice

Anke Hermann et al.

Summary: The WWC protein family regulates cell differentiation, proliferation, and organ growth via the Hippo signaling pathway. Specifically, WWC2 plays a crucial role in early embryonic development and vascularization in mice, with its deletion leading to growth retardation and embryonic lethality.

Sex disparities in cardiovascular health metrics among rural-dwelling older adults in China: a population-based study

Xiaolei Han et al.

Summary: The study found that only a very small proportion of older adults in rural China achieved optimal cardiovascular health metrics in all six categories, with significant gender disparities. Women had higher levels of ideal cardiovascular health metrics in global and behavioral aspects, while men had higher levels in biological aspects.
