Exploration of the mechanism by which icariin modulates hippocampal neurogenesis in a rat model of depression

Ning-Xi Zeng et al.

Summary: In this study, the mechanism by which Icariin (ICA) protects against hippocampal injury in depression was investigated through proteomics analysis of cerebrospinal fluid. The results showed that ICA can prevent depression and dysfunctional hippocampal neurogenesis through regulating the expression of certain proteins found in the cerebrospinal fluid.

Insulin resistance: a connecting link between Alzheimer's disease and metabolic disorder

Viplav Kshirsagar et al.

Summary: Recent evidence suggests a close link between Alzheimer's disease (AD) and insulin resistance, similar to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), leading to impaired insulin signaling and formation of neurofibrillary tangles in the AD brain. Understanding the contribution of T2DM and other metabolic disorders to AD pathogenesis is essential, and exploring factors like miRNA, leptin hormone, neuroinflammation, and metabolic dysfunction in both AD and T2DM could help in developing molecular therapies to reduce the burden of these diseases.

Alzheimer amyloid-β- peptide disrupts membrane localization of glucose transporter 1 in astrocytes: implications for glucose levels in brain and blood

Rachel D. Hendrix et al.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is related to disruptions in blood glucose regulation, with a possible role for amyloid-beta peptide in linking these conditions. Research in AD mouse models has shown that reduced glucose utilization in the brain is similar to that in AD patients, indicating that abnormal blood glucose regulation in AD likely reflects a central phenomenon.

Quantitative Measurement of Cerebrospinal Fluid Amyloid-beta Species by Mass Spectrometry

Yusuke Seino et al.

Summary: The study validated the LC-MS/MS assay for Aβ species and compared it with ELISA using cerebrospinal fluid samples, showing its potential for clinical application. By analyzing CSF samples from different subjects, the study found correlations among Aβ species and significant differences in AD and CU for certain Aβ species.

Islet amyloid polypeptide & amyloid beta peptide roles in Alzheimer's disease: two triggers, one disease

Sofia Ferreira et al.

Summary: This study discusses the association of IAPP with diabetes, Aβ, and dementia, elucidating the pathological role of IAPP in AD. Research has shown that IAPP not only contributes to cognitive decline, but also harms the blood-brain barrier, interacts directly with Aβ, and co-deposits with it, leading to diabetes-associated dementia.
