Elevated amyloid beta disrupts the nanoscale organization and function of synaptic vesicle pools in hippocampal neurons

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is associated with increased levels of A beta in the brain, and this study investigates the impact of A beta on functional presynaptic vesicle pools. The researchers found that A beta treatment led to an enlargement of functional vesicles and an accumulation of recycled vesicles near endocytic sites. This resulted in deficits in vesicle retrieval pathways and limited information signaling capacity. Treatment with an antiepileptic drug partially rescued these transmission defects.

Enhancing astrocytic phagocytosis may present a novel therapeutic approach for Alzheimer's disease.

Increased neuronal activity in motor cortex reveals prominent calcium dyshomeostasis in tauopathy mice

Summary: Perturbed neuronal Ca2+ homeostasis is closely related to Alzheimer's disease, with abnormal activity observed in tauopathy mice compared to wild-type mice. The study also found that tau monoclonal antibody injections partially rescued Ca2+ activity abnormalities and decreased soluble pathological tau protein in the brain of tauopathy mice. These results suggest a causal link between neuronal Ca2+ dyshomeostasis and pathological tau protein, highlighting the potential of acute tau antibody treatment in correcting neuronal Ca2+ dysregulation.
